Tournaments in SF Bay area?

Does anybody know of weekly or other tournaments in the bay area? I have a chance to go play some this weekend, but don't know of too many tourneys.

On the West Coast there are several pool newspapers that have tournament schedules. On The Break News is one, it's free in pool halls, and it keeps its recent issues on-line. See: http://www.onthebreaknews.com/
In addition to the listings there, there is also a 14.1 league at four rooms in the Bay Area.

Hi Bob!

Thanks for the info. There seems to be a shortage of tournaments here compared to places I've lived in the past. Only really a couple of weekly tournaments in our area. I think maybe there are some bar table or smaller tournaments that aren't in the magazine. Hopefully somebody on here knows of a couple.

If I don't find one closer, I may go to the CA Billiard Club tournament, but I hesitate because I don't have a USPPA rating yet, although I am a member.

I'm jealous of all those east coasters and their big open tourneys every week.

There are USPPA tournaments nightly in the bay area. Monday at Family in S.F. Tuesday at The Brocken Rack in Emeryville, Thursday again at Family and Sunday night at California Billiard Club in Mountainview. First weekend of the month Hard Times in Sacramento has open one pocket on saturday and then open nine ball on sunday, California Billiard Club runs the same format on the third weekend of the month.
 
There is a Pechaur (sp) tournament coming up there on 2/12 - 2/13. I forget the name of the room it's at, but you can find it on this site.

Jimmy, CCC,

Are either of you playing in it? I would play, but unfortunately I'm going to be working :( But I will go watch possibly if some AZB folks are playing in it.

The last one I played in was brutal, I got smoked by T-Rex. The pockets at Family are REALLY tight for a converted bar box player. I think they are tighter than the tight one a Kolby's in Phoenix.

There is an open nine ball tournament at the pool hall in Alameda on wednesday nights, usually not too many strong players at that one, but occasionally you get a couple who can play there.

I checked on this and it's Wed. at Q-Time on Park near the bridge. Wednesdays I'm playing in the USPPA/BCA league at Broken Rack in Emeryville, but I will definitely check this out after the league is over.

I heard about an 8-ball Bar Table at an English sounding pub on Saturdays (I think) but I can't for the life of me remember the name of the joint. It's near the San Leandro/Hayward border if I remember right. I'm tempted to just drive over there and look around.

Heck, I haven't even been able to find a bar box APA/BCA league to play on near my house. The BCA website used to have someone in San Leandro, but they have apparently moved on.

The place I was thinking of is Union Jack's...I believe. Looks like it's in Hayward on Mission.

There is another place in San Leandro called 2B's something like that real small place on E 14th nice bar tables they have a nine ball tournament on sunday's and pool was free all day before the tournament last time I was there.

hmmm...I'm going to be working near there tomorrow I'll take another look. I briefly drove by part of 14th today but didn't see anything interesting. Thanks for the info!

Talk to Gene Miller over at Family Billiards, he runs the tournaments on monday and thurdsay over there. He is involved with some city bar league. I know Delbert and some other good players play for one of the bars in the city.

I played in the Tues Tourney at the Broken rack last night and the TD told me that Straight Shooter is still open, however they have changed hands and are currently remodeling so they are only open from 6 p.m. til midnight or something similar to allow for the construction.
