treating shaft wood

I once heard from a cue maker that has worked for some of the best cue makers in the biz that Tad Kohara would soak his shafts in a mixture of lacquer finish cut with lacquer thinner. Has anyone tried this or heard of this maybe this was before Nelsonite or Resolute. I have used Nelsonite for some time but don't like it on the shafts.

i never heard that, but i have heard he is famous for having straight shafts.i don't like Nelsonite or Resolute either,so i don't use anything and if the shaft is bouncing after the second cut then i put it aside.

I tried this with a few shafts. I soaked them for three hours when the shaft was 13.75. The moisture when soaking them made them warp. After they dried most were not straight enough to use and darker in color like they had a light stained. The one that I finished and tried on my cue felt stiff and heavy. If I try this again I'd soak it them for less time and or try thinning the laquer more. And do it the second to last cut.
