To add a little perspective, here are the top 32 players at the event (out of 101) by Fargo Rating. Having 4 of 5 US players make the final 32 and 1 make the final 16 is roughly what is to be expected.

I think it's great that (most of) the USA team went to this tournament to see what the European competition is like. I guess they have a lot to talk about now, given this outcome for the USA players.

And the 'Mosconi Cup'-like match between the USA team and the Russian team was a fabulous idea! Seems to me like they sure are doing a lot more to get ready for the MC than in previous years!
 
I just want to give Alex Kazakis HUGE congratulations.
He is a great player and proved that his last year title wasn't a fluke (not that anyone who knows him ever thought of that).
He is a great person as well, always with a smile on his face and friendly to anyone, willing to give out advice and have fun with everyone.
