Does anyone have any tips on making the one shot they do where the cueball and eight are frozen about a diamond away from the side pocket and you shoot the cueball across the table and it come back and knocks in the 8 which has now been bumped in front of the pocket? I must have tried it 60 times yesterday after watching that movie thinking it would be simple to learn and a fun proposition if I could get it on lock but I only made it once the whole time hahah.

try hitting the the cue ball straight into the rail with a little right english and just barely slicing 8, just enough to get it in front of the pocket. i have problems with this one also but have made it quite a few times.

Yeah, I've been using right hand english (it's really the only way to do it I suppose) but I can't get the timing right as far as hitting the 8 enough to get it into the pocket or hitting it too far, it's always either one or the other no matter how I adjust. :(

Freeze the 8 ball and cueball to the diamond closest to the side pocket. Aim directly at the other side pocket and shoot with a level stroke. This will get you close. Then make minor adjustments to get closer and closer untill vuala. I used to aim for one of the side pocket titties with a little left english if I remember correctly.(inside english)

Just make sure you place the 8 ball and cueball in the exact same spot so your adjustments are accurate for the next time.

I haven't seen the movie, so I am trying to picture this. Is this what you guys are talking about?

The above picture is how I did it. I had to aim at the far edge of the side pocket to get it to go. Chris.

Freeze the cueball and the 8 ball to one another and to the rail in the first daimond away from the side pocket. When shooting, play a little bit of high, right english and stroke towards the point of the opposite side pocket. Soft to Medium speed should be all you'll need.

So there are three variables in your control here: aim, speed, and english.
Because the CB and the 8 are frozen, the CB will come off the 8 and hit the far rail in almost the same place every shot, even as you change your aim. This means a certain english is needed to get the CB to bank back toward the side pocket. Find that english.

A certain speed is needed so that the CB makes it back, but slow enough that the 8 has almost stopped in front of the pocket by the time the CB gets there (if the 8 is moving quickly, consistency will be very difficult to achieve). So find that speed.

Now that you know what english and speed you have to use to get the CB to do that right thing, change your aim until the 8 rolls up and almost stops in front of the pocket. Aiming further uptable makes the 8 roll faster, aiming more directly across the table makes the 8 roll slower. Once you've experimented enough to pin down all three variables, I bet you can make it very consistently.

I usually do it without any english. Aiming center high on the cue ball and aiming for the side pocket on the other side of the table.

Just gotta time it right.

Yes. Make sure the two balls are frozen. If your eyesight is unable to detect frozen balls, buy or borrow some reading glasses. The balls have to be touching and not just close.

Aim the cue ball at roughly the near corner of the opposite side pocket. Try the shot. Play it with good speed -- don't try to trickle the object ball up to the jaws. Note whether the cue ball arrives back on the long rail before or after the object ball is at the side pocket. If the cue ball is early, play fuller into the object ball by choosing an aiming spot on the far cushion that is farther away, maybe part way into the side pocket.

Once you get the cue ball timing right, adjust where it is when it returns by using a little side spin. I find that if I aim at the nearer edge of the pocket liner in the opposite side pocket and use a hair of running english, the shot can be made for more or less the same aim and english clear down to the third diamond from the side pocket.

The reason that there is nearly a single point of aim on the far rail for all starting points along the first cushion has to do with how the "two times fuller" system works.

Haha, thanks everyone. When I made the thread I half expected it to drift down very quickly wihtout much help since it's not very relavent but I'm glad all you guys have tried to help.

I'll try it exactly how Bob just suggested and see if I can get it consistently.

I got to trying this last night at the end of my practice....froze 'em together with diamond in the center of the two balls.. played top center aimed for the left titt on the cross side.. took about 6 or 7 times to get the speed down .. then viola.. dropped it... wasnt tough and I imagine that with about 20 mins or so dedicated to it it would become a fairly high % shot.

a few yrs ago, after watching PHJ's a million times, I decided to try the 8ball shot.

So I set it up and bam on the first try i made it lol. But then couldnt make it any time after that lol.

The other one I like to try is the CB/9ball shot at the end of the movie.
