Tired of the glue not sticking to the pads on these tips,
And I read all of the ways to help this,

Im looking for a good brand of tip to replace these when a customer wants a softer tip. My customers don`t like the elk masters either.
Any suggestions other than layered tips ?

Plus they dont want to spend more than the $10.00 I charge

thank you

Just remove the pad. I always do as I don't trust their adhesives.
If your customer wants a pad then use one of your own with your trusted adhesive of choice.

Culling through a box of LePros would yield some less dense ones that would be fairly comparable imho....and if the customer wants, you can use your own fibre pad.

does the pad stay on the ferrule with the tip coming off the pad, or does the pad and tip come off the ferrule ?

Milk duds are what you're looking for, and they're not difficult to make. YOu can make them out of both elkmasters and triangles.

I changed a Triumph and managed to cut the tip off leaving the pad on, but I don't suggest doing that. I personally think Triumph and Triangle are basically the same thing. The Triumph had no problem sticking on with thick woodworker's CA. Just rough up both surfaces and glue it without contaminating either surface, you should be fine.

I just had one that I tried to put on, and while trimming it, it came right off the pad. The glue on the back of the tip seemed almost like a rubber cement. It just rubbed off:eek: I then cut the pad off the ferrule and sanded the tip and intalled it without. Won't use the remaining ones I have, I'll worry to much about them falling off down the road.

Thanks Varney, i`ll try that, my customers don`t really care about having the pad anyway.

I have never had any trouble with them, I rough up the pad with sand paper and use loctite professional. Do you rough up the pad first? what glue are you using?

I rough the pad and true up the ferrule to, i use loctite super glue gel.

seem to be only certain ferrule types as on cheaper cues that pop off when I get ready to trim them with my williards first.

I have found the "professional" sticks much better to a wider variety of materials. Especially plastics. it is amazing stuff.
