Trouble deciding on B/J Tip

Mychoads

Hi,

I have a Players J/B cue and I have never really liked the phenolic tip that came on it. I told myself I would give it some time before replacing it, hoping it would grow on me, but it hasn't. I was breaking better with an old beater cue with a break hardened LePro tip on it.

I am thinking of going with the leather Samsara for this reason, as I have read good things about it when I searched the forum for info. I don't want to sacrifice jumping ability but would like more control on the break as I can generate plenty of speed. I've heard that the Tiger Icebreaker is a good compromise tip as well.

So, help me make up my mind.....
For all around Jumping with ease/ Breaking with control would you choose
Samsara or Icebreaker?
Some other tip I don't know about?

Thanks

Samsara, if you can find someone that knows how to install it. It's a nice tip, but I've had 6 or 7 pop off.

Have an action JB and put a samsara on it. It's great. No experience with the icebreaker though.

Unanimous

Well, I guess that makes it an easy decision. I'll give the samsara a try. I was going to install the tip myself with locktite ultra gel. I've had good luck with it so far as long as I carefully prep the surface.

I'm guessing I can just cut the phenolic tip off close to ferrule with a razor and sand off the remainder like I would with a leather tip? This is the first phenolic I've ever removed.

The only thing I can imagine he was doing, was overheating the tips. The tips were actually splitting at the layers. Here is a video of the last tip installed, that I let cure for over 24 hours.

Similar thing happened to me. Ordered two break cues from ozone and had samsara tips installed on them by ozone. Both within 5 breaks separated clean from the ferrule. Took the same tips to my local guy and haven't had a problem since. Def was a problem with how ozone either installed them or shipped them and not a problem with the tip.

Taom 2.0 is a great tip too. I too have a Players J/B, and changing the tip made it easier to control jump shots and more power on break shots. I'd recommend trying one for you too.
My J/B is starting to warp quite badly, hows your holding up? I have several millimeters of lift on it when rolling on table, hopefully it wont get any worse than it already is or I'll soon be on the market for a new breaker and a jump cue.
Planning on getting Predator Air2 for myself on my birthday, so a dedicated breaker would be great :)

Samsara all the way.., great tips and I've never had any problems with them..

I picked up some G10 rod with my last atlas order and thought I would try a few G10 Ferrules with White Diamond Tips. I am thoroughly impressed with the combo.

Kimmo- Aside from a small ding on the butt I haven't had any issues with the cue. Since player's has a lifetime warranty have you tried contacting the retailer you bought it from or player's directly? I would assume they would replace it.

I loved the Samsara while it was on the cue!

What was a pain, was that most of the six tips came off after a few hits, but the sixth tip came off on the first break!

If I get another Samsara installed, I'll send it to Ryan Theewen.

Had the exact same problem with a Samsara from Ozone I had them put on a Players J/B when I bought it. After only two or three breaks it came clean off, took it to my local guy who always does my cue tips and haven't had a problem since.

I had the same issue with my samsara... layers kept coming off. I had a Hammerhead put on, I recommend using the loctite 380 that Chris sells with it. At first I was skeptical, but after giving it 24 hours for the glue to fully set, it's great, for both breaking and jumping.
