Trouble with Mcdermott Stinger

I have had a NG 01 Mcdermott Stinger J/B for about 4 months and I have loved it. So far the best J/B I have had.
About 2 weeks ago a buddy of mine who has the same exact cue said his tip cracked in a lot of little pieces and he sent it back to McDermott for a new tip....Well yesterday my tip cracked in a lot of pieces. I don't know if I want to send it back to have it repaired or not...Anyone else have this problen with this cue ???? I'm thinking about having my pro shop put on a different tip ......???
 
I have a stinger as well, but have not used it much. I have not seen any problems when I did use it.
My suggestion is to send it back. Without feedback, the company will never know if there is or is not a problem. If your friends cue fails agin , I would also send it back agin giving a little more info ,like the amount of use it has had and what type of play you have been doing most with it, ie jumping trick shots or just breaks.

A friend and I were warned of this exact problem. When my friend tried to warn others of this he was flamed :frown: I would call the merchant from whom you purchased the cue from or call McD's straight up. Since the tip is supposed to be a big reason behind the functionality of this j/b, you should try to resolve it by getting another original put on - that won't break.
 
I would suggest calling Jerry Powers from Jerico Cues. He made the original Stingers. Because of the phenolic restrictions that are being implemented, Jerry developed a new leather tip for his Stinger cues. They seem to jump very comparable to the other tip.
He charged me a fair fee for the tip installed and you send the shaft to him.
His number is located on the bottom of his web site. To make sure you get the right person he's located in Clyde, Texas.

Trouble with McDermott Stinger

Please call Jerry 325-893-2393 and explain what has happened. I know the last time something like this started to occur he cotacted McDermott since his name is attached to the Stinger.
McDermott seems to have problems producing the cue even though Jerry has given them all the product information for proper production.
Last part of my 2 cents worth is....if your having problems with the cue, why didn't you contact McDermott or whomever you bought the cue from and see if they would fix the problem? Hope this helps
 
McDermott is a pretty stand-up company . . .

I have a lot of their cues, and they have never failed to be accomodating and reasonable in fixing anything with their name on it . . . I'd go there first - explain what's wrong - and let them have a crack at it before you go off road.

A couple of years ago I had a shaft that cracked in the wood just below the ferrule . . . not a breaker mind you - just a players cue. They sent me a NEW one sight unseen.

I like their products and customer service . . .
