if your watching espn this week, you'll notice the tournament ref, is charles ursetti, i was sitting with him about two years ago, at carom cafe, and he was telling myself, and a couple of other people, about himself, but more importantly, about the great willie mosconi. he said, for the last 10 years or so, of willie mosconi's life, he was his personal mgr.!!!! our ears, perked up like a cat on the highway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he said, yeah, i set up many tournaments, with fats and mosconi. i also, invented the game 7-ball, he also, went on to talk about players of the past, their birthdays, high runs, the dates of their biggest tournament wins, etc. etc. this guy charles, was a walking encyclopedia of pool!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he was so knowledgable on past champions it was mind bogoling!!!!!!!!! now, onto the nitty gritty, storys about the great~~~ willie mosconi. he said, willie was treated like royality, personal invites to the white house! whereever he went, he was treated like a king!, he also, said, he was a perfectionest. once when practicing, mosconi played a shot, and got great position, and charles said, great position, and mosconi responed, by saying, let me show you something, he went up to the cloth and pointed with his index finger, a human hair's worth away from where the cue ball rested, and said, this would have been ideal, my position was "off" that's the type of perfection willie strived for. last story, and the greatest of e'm all, cause it's true! before one of mosconi's many, many, tournaments, he liked to lossen up, warm up, set up a break shot, and GO! well, on this one particular occasion, he set up his break shot, it went in, and willie continued, running ball after ball, rack after rack, typical mosconi style. after an hour or so, he said, he wanted a coffee, charles brought back the coffee, another hour, i'd like some food, charles brought back food, etc. etc. it turned out, rack after rack, with charles keeping a total on his run, charles looked up at willie and said, "willie, you've just ran 599 balls" to that willie mosconi replyed "good, i'm ready" in other words, he has broken the record of the famous 526 many, times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! think about THAT!!! it's the only time that humans witnessed 526, that it became offical, but he has run as much as 599!!! in practice, incredible, also, the part of the story, that was intresting was, willie didn't give a shit, about the 599, if it was anyone else, that would have fainted!, he was all business. you could fin more about charles ursetti at thebilliardcollector.com
