Tung oil finish / sanding

Recently I picked up a sp. With Tung oil finish.
Tung oil finish very nice but I would like to sand (very fine ) the finish to smooth it out.
What grit would be recommended. ?

Steel wool won't make it smooth, just smother. 600 grit followed by 000 or 00 steel wool dipped in paste wax than buffed would be better.
