Anyone read today's news regarding Caesar's being given permission to tear down the Tunica casino? Seems like a pretty sad end to what was a new beginning for pool. Thanks for trying Greg.

I think it has been reported on here several times that Tunica was dead for pool anyway. The one and only event didn't go as well as planned so Greg pulled the plug on it early.

Well, since you asked. Two Southern Classics were held in Tunica -- July, 2012 and June, 2013.

The property in Tunica has been closed for a while. That's why there hasn't been a SC recently.

i have not heard anything localy about any casinos being torn down in tunica. it was hosted at harrahs ..does caesers have any thing to do with harrahs ?
i recall a thread way back where greg said there would not be any more southern classics held. he stated harrahs was disappointed with the amount of foot traffic the tournament generated in the casino.
i made one of my long winded diatribes blaming every one involved for the lack of local advertisement. it seems they disregarded advertising in a metro area of one million people minutes from the casinos.
harrahs has a shit load of billboards scattered around memphis touting this concert or that poker tourny but nothing about the southern classic. harrahs has 2 full pages of ads in the mempis flyer...a free weekly magazine with over 30,000 distributed weekly and nothing in it about the tourny.
bcapl and apa both held tournaments simultaneously in the convention center accross the street from harrahs during the southern classic of 2012. i dont know about bcapl players but several apa players i talked to were not aware of the tourny.
napa held its nationals in the same place in 2013 during the southern classic and most local napa players were not aware of the tourny.
i went both years to the amateur events and cant tell you how many times this come up. standing out side smoking and a car pulls up. they say they heard about a pro tourny going on and wanted to know where it was at.
no one knew it was at harrahs...btw harrahs has a big ass sign out front that can be seen a mile away....nothing on it mentioning a tourny.
in my opinion every one involved dropped the ball in promoting these events in tunica.

When Harrah's Inc. purchased Caesar's many years ago, they changed the corporate name to Caesar's. It was announced today in a Federal court Caesar's was given permission by the court to tear Tunica down. They had been losing money on the property for years. After the bankruptcy, Caesar's was looking for ways to lighten their load. Tunica was closed last Summer if I remember correctly. Still a sad end. This information is to the best of my knowledge. Some here may have better information.

My memory is sketchy, but I seem to recall that it was the casino that pulled the plug on it. The players/guests/hangers-on didn't gamble enough or spend enough money elsewhere in the casino.
