Turning down OB1?

Is it possible to turn down an OB1 to 12 or 12.2mm with a conical taper? Would it hit like an OB2 that way?
 
Recently I just talked to OB cue, I was told that the least diameter that it could be turned down is 12.3mm without sacrificing the playability. Anything less than that could damage the ferrule.

Even with the shaft diameter in consideration, the OB1 and OB2 hit nothing alike. I have both, started with the OB1 but moved to the OB2 later on.

Hey Richard,

Could you describe your experience with the OB1 and OB2? I currently use an OB1 and I am close to purchasing an OB2, I am just curious what you like/didn't like about each shaft.

It's all a matter of preference, what feel you prefer. I switch back and forth quite often between the two. Honestly, these days I usually warm up and find my stroke with the OB1 then play with the OB2. The mm difference makes a huge difference with ball control. During game play if I find myself losing control of the CB I switch back to the OB1. But either way this my personal feeling about the 2 shafts.

Both are awesome shafts. I have one OB1 and 1 OB2 for my player cue and another OB2 for my backup cue. They hit unlike any other shaft I've ever played with. There's a learning curve with both shafts. They both have an odd sound to them too. Actually, its just very quiet compared to most cues. The OB1 is a little more whippy than the OB2. The LD characteristics are much better with the OB2 but it is a small diameter shaft. They both hit very solid. For the average player that shoots with 13mm or a little below, the OB1 is a great start. It allows you to do all those things you've always wanted to do. Of course this is all revolves around having a solid steady stroke. Once you have perfected that, if you find yourself needing even more ball control (Extreme English) then the OB2 is for you. Your CB hit will have to be much more precise though. I don't really have anything bad to say about either shaft. I did say learning curve though. It took me about a month of shooting to get comfortable with the OB1 and about twice that with the OB2.
