Turning Stone Reopening

Got some emails from them that the Turning Stone Casino and Resort is reopening on June 10th. It's limited reopening, no concerts and not all the restaurants, but the casino and a bunch of their other shops and eateries are reopening. Right now they have a limited, "local only" policy that allows only guests from within a 120 mile area, and they say protocols will be in place to enforce that, with more of their amenities returning as we move forward. Masks for everyone and social distancing in effect, with gloves worn by all staff too.

I'm hoping that this whole progression works out so that by early September when the Turning Stone Classic is scheduled, it is at the point where that can happen. I always enjoyed spending the day there for that.

The biggest unknown right now for any large gatherings where people may be flying into from out of state is that folks are very reluctant to book airline flights 3 to 6 months in advance right now in case there is a virus resurgence that causes airlines or venues to shut back down- then the whole airline credit thing becomes a big issue all over again for those that have $$$ wrapped up in air tickets.

Most people drive to Turning Stone, so this may not be as affected as other large events.

And no one should ever book airline Tix months in advance unless they are free to cancel and i dont know that that exists any longer. You won't get cheaper fares like that either. 8-21 days before the event is plenty for 99% of domestic travel.

Anyhow, MOST people are not going to wait to a few weeks before an event they are participating in to buy airline tickets- for many reasons including cost ( despite what you claim) , availability of seats, choice of seats, city pair routing, flight time availability, etc. etc. etc. You really believe that most people who have booked hotels, car rentals, ANY SORT OF LODGING, paid fees for entering an event, etc. are going to wait until a week or so prior to that event to buy their airline ticket? I highly doubt it.

I have to stop posing on this site- the responses are killing me!

Good news. Hope everything is back to normal at Turning Stone by beginning of September. It's a wonderful event, one of the very best on the American pool calendar. It's one of the few pool-related things I haven't removed from my 2020 calendar --- hope it stays that way.
