I just noticed that the Twilight Zone episode called "A Game of Pool" is on the SciFi channel today (Friday) at 1:30 pm (Pacific). I've never seen this episode (starring Jack Klugman and Jonathon Winters), but I've heard about it and have been looking for it for months. Finally saw it listed among the SciFi channel Twilight Zone marathon going on today.

This has been a public service announcement.

I loathe winning every game of pool. So let this be a lesson to you, grasshopper. <8^} Careful what you wish for.

Sci-Fi channel now.
SORRY NOT IN CALIFORNIA, WILL BE ON AT 4:30. , RIGHT NOW IS 90 YEARS WITHOUT SLUMBERING FROM 1963.
IS THIS THE EPISODE WHERE HE MAKES A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL ON A GAME OF POOL? THAT MUST BE MY PROBLEM.

I just finished watching that episode for the x'th time. I think that the important message here is that if you gotta' reside in heaven being the best at fighting off gunslingers aiming for your number 1 spot, it ain't worth it. It ain't heaven.

Not that episode. It's where he beats Jonathan Winters who at that time is the best at pool but, unlike his challenger Jack Klugman, has found time to walk uphill, make love...

I think Klugman was shooting with a Harvey Martin. LOL
They were awful. So was the story line.
But, Jonathan's character did have a few good lines.

We must be in different Californias. :) I watched it at 1:30 here in Sacramento on DirecTV's SciFi channel.

First time I've seen it (I think. I might have seen it 30 or 40 yrs ago!). Not too bad. Typical Twilight Zone stuff. I guess the moral of the story is that if you're "the best" at something, there's always gonna be someone gunnin for ya, and ya gotta keep defending yourself.

Thanks, man...I got it taped--finally. I couldn't see the copyright date in the credits...do you know the year it was recorded? My guess is was just after The Hustler in '60 or '61, as it borrowed so much fluffy stuff from the movie.

Right after The Twilight Zone, I switched to AMC and there were the Three Stooges firing a big cannon aimlessly at a ship. It accidently hit a house and Moe said, "Gee, I hope we didn't hit the pool room." Gotta love 'em.

I noticed the year it was first shown on DirecTV's program description screen: 1961. I seem to recall that it was September 1961, but I'm not certain about the month. Definitely 1961, tho.

gwvavases and WestElder, thank you for the info. I love that link! This line from the show stuck with me:

Opening Narration
Narrator: "Jesse Cardiff, pool shark, the best on Randolph Street, who will soon learn that trying to be the best at anything carries its own special risks in or out of the Twilight Zone."

The best on just one street! Not the best in town or the state or region...no, the best on one lousy street! Man, it must have been quite a time when there were pool halls everywhere. So many, that being the best on one street was really something and could even create the fantasy of making the dead rise to challenge the best on one little ol' street. How times have changed.

Jeff Livingston, the best on my street...nyuk nyuk nyuk...soytenlee
