Have any of you poured an epoxy floor in your garage or basement? What should I expect to pay hire a professional for a 650sqft garage (with a drain)? Table will go in the middle of the room. I typically do my own jobs, but for this one I just don't feel like doing it myself. Thanks in advance.

We had a thread on a car forum I'm on. Everyone says have a pro do the install... All the homeowner installed did not last.

Only a couple of prices were posted though... $3 - $5 sq/ft

And research the pro that does it. Price and quality varies like anything else.

First garage we did was by a professional house painter with epoxy from Home Depot.. Came up in spots. Shop.

$3k seems pretty close. just had mine done, about the same size. had 3 boxes of the epoxy kit $500 and paid 2 guys $2500 to do it. they spent day one prepping, day 2 applying. worth every penny. hate to park my car in the garage now, it's too nice.

If you're not going to drive on it, you could absolutely do it yourself. I can't recall how many square feet mine was, but all my quotes were outrageous (in my opinion).

Here in Naples Fl a 20x20 garage epoxy floor is $3000 to $4000 - so that is 400 sq feet - 650sq feet - they would probably quote another$2000 or so - total 5-6K These are legit insured companies - you can always get moonlighters at about 2/3 the cost but you have no recourse after the job is complete.

I did my 500 square foot garage. I had Sherwin Williams come inspect the floor. I used their professional grade stuff, not the box stuff from Home Depot.
I did two acid washes, made sure the floor was completely dry (I ran a dehumidifier for a few days). Get the proper PPE, especially the respirator for ACID.
I did two coats (one thinned out to really sink in) then I clear coated it. I want to say I had about $700-900.
I used an Armorseal product. They let me use one of the pro accounts, so it coast me about 60% of retail.

I followed this guy. I think he had about the three part series. Take his advice, don't clean brushes, throw that crap away. Also use gloves.

Clarification- I did two coats of the Epoxy, THEN I did a clear coat on top of the two coats. Above it may have looked like I only did one coat of epoxy and one clear coat.

Yes I going to watch this. I like these projects, but I just moved and I have so many other things to do, baby on the way, electronic hardware side projects, and a day job, that I will probably just spend a bit longer and save up for retail. It is good to know you got it done for half the price properly and is a good answer.

I believe there is a couple of different types of epoxy jobs. The ones shown above are a top coat for floors in nice condition, there is also an epoxy job where they sand the floor then put down an epoxy coating of an inch or more to coat and repair beat up and cracked floors. I had a customer who bought a house with an attached garage and the floor was in terrible shape from cracks and uneven slabs to the top of the concrete popping up and leaving aggregate exposed, happens from the salt infested snow melting off of your car and leaving salt puddles behind. The floor was absolutely beautiful when finished. He parked his race car and maintained it and other toys in the garage and claims that it would hold up to sliding jacks stands on the floor and using floor jacks etc. This was years ago, I recall it being pretty expensive but economical when considering replacing the slab.

If there is never going to be cars on it, could you just put some laminated plank down? Wouldn't have to actually go under the actual garage door, could stop just short of it with some edging. Lot nicer standing on, and when the balls occasionally fly off the table.
Slatemans floor looks really nice though.

I had a quote for a 550 sf garage was right at $3000. I'll probably tile it instead when I have time.

I will say, hearing a ball smack the floor does make my soul pucker just a bit. That may be why I have a very nice ball collection....
