Typical Cue Maker?

Typical Cue Maker... I believe that would be an oxymoron!!

bunches of stuff

A lathe,a bandsaw, wood, wood, wood, wood LOTS OF WOOD.....It would be nice to have a general knowledge of wood and tools ...It would be great if you had a machinists backgroud.....Other than that a little passion, patience a ton more tooling and some more wood....Hope that helps..P.S Get Cuemans book and read it twice....just my 2:thumbup:

Cuemaker's workshop...Random thoughts

This forum is an excellent source of information and this topic has been covered numerous times. Use the search function or simply got to page one and start reading. I spent months following the "Ask the Cuemaker" forum before I bought any of my equipment (there was no "Cue Machinery" forum when I started).

Just a couple things that have not yet been mentioned in this thread.....

One item that is often overlooked in discussions of shop equipment is dust collection. I was guilty of starting my cue making without a dust collector or air cleaner and I regret it.

You will also need to decide what finishing technique you will use. Many swear by auto clear coat, but they are very hazardous. I, personally, use a water-based polyurethane. It does a great job and it's a lot safer!

Between $12,000 and $15,000 will get you started and should cover the initial necessary materials and machinery. But first buy a copy of Chris Hightowers book, it will get you started in the right direction.

Good Luck
