U. S. Open Finals Format Unfair?

I think the format is perfectly fair. Every single player knew they were competing for the "advantage" in the final. The importance of EVERY match should be taken seriously. From the beginning, IT IS FAIR.

the brackets were seeded and then randomly drawn - quite frankly, i would not care if they did put them all in one bracket as long as the brackets are true. the best players will come out in the end, this year, it was Shane Van Boening and Ronnie Alcano. i can understand your frustration, but there is honestly nothing you can do about how the draw comes out. this type of thing happens all of the time - if only i could count how many times i have traveled with someone to an event and ended up drawing them first round.....

Come to think of it, if it was a conspiracy it's a very very very stupid one. Putting all/most of the Filipinos (with considerable number) in one bracket will just create a perfect path for at least one of the Filipinos to reach the finals or 2 Filipinos in the semis, one coming from the supposedly "loaded" loser bracket.

OR maybe they're doing that not realizing the consequence, :D.

I truly dont think its fair to Barry and to the US OPEN...I truly think that Barry cares a great deal about the tournament and wants it to be the best it can be and the fairest..I am sorry the are the major Phillipio players ended up in one bracket..hell it hurt me because I wanted to pick a couple of them to win ..but they were in the same bracket....but i picked Parica , Bustamante and Allcano to win..not bad..and Shane was last pic ...so im battting pretty good.hahah

My vote is, I want that "conspiracy" to be put in place in every tournament where there are considerable number of Filipino players. LOL, that only makes it easier for one of the Pinoys to reach the finals.

On with the "conspiracy." :D

Just a clarification, bhoytam is not filipino. He has been posting anti-filipino crap before and I don't know what his intention was when he replied to this thread. Perhaps to stir some controversy.

I'm more inclined to think he's Taiwanese, because whenever there's talk
about Taiwanese players, he's there. Check this out, he's maligning Filipino
players in this thread:

I contend that the single-elimination format in the Open (and many other tournaments) is unfair to the unbeaten player coming from the winner's side (in today's case, SVB). After beating Alcano once already, if SVB loses to him once (tonight), Alcano is the champion, even though they both only have one loss. The fact that it's a race to 13 instead of 11 does not mitigate the inequity IMO. I can think of no sound reason why the Open should not require the loser's side participant in the finals to win twice, otherwise it's a double elimination tournament for everyone but the King of the Hill.
They know before getting in tourny what to expect!!lo lo i want to change the world!!!!!

9-Ball format

I feel a major professional tournament should be structured to determined the best and 2nd best players in the field. Lets look at the U.S. Open Tennis tournament, one of the 2 most prestigeous tournaments in the sport of tennis.

A single-elimination tournament from the first round to the last, each match is the same best-of-5 sets format. The winners advance, as they should, being the better players. The losers go home. No losers bracket. No 2nd chances. 128 players, 32 of which are seeded. In 2007 the #1 seed won the tournament over second place #3 seed.

I think pool should be single-elimination of 1 longer set. How long? I don't know. At least race to 15. Or, we could say race to 15, but must win by at least 2 or 3. For TV matches, they are edited to fit a particular time frame anyhow, so there's no need to have shortened finals match.
