The field will be cut off at 64-in order on entry. Event played on 20 Gold Crown IV's Super Pro Aramith Balls for the best in tournament play!

The tournament has already began to fill up, so for a secured spot, get your registration in today. This is a new location for Pro-Tyme Billiards, and they have spent much time and money making this one of Chicagolands finest poolrooms. It has a full Espresso Bar, wonderful food and a Internet cafe.

Why would women play? They aren't allowed to play in the US "Open" anyway. If a woman were to win it would they just get the $500 entry fee instead or entry into the WPBA's US "Open" which also isn't open.

2 things promoters and organizations don't understand these days are "guaranteed" and "open".

Nothing against you Eydie. The terminology in use today is just off. There is no qualification needed for the Behrman US Open other than testicles. So therefore this tournament is to win a paid spot in the tournament not to "qualify" for it.

Sorry, I am just in a cynical mood after having to watch the World Championships on my computer instead of live on TV where it should be. Just another reminder how much in the toilet pro pool in America is.

In my opinion, every pool room in America should hold weekly 9 ball tournaments where points are given and take a bit of the entry fees to send the points leader to the US Open. We don't need to have one off tournaments for the best hustlers to rob for the spots. Most of those guys are going to go anyway.

I would love to see the US Open recognize players that were sent there by pool rooms, cities and states.

Ok, off the soapbox now.

John :-) Have a good tournament - I hear Pro Tyme is Kick Ass.

Hey John ~

Good points although it's not my event. Just friends of mine that own the hall. Told them I would post the info. I think that they are going to be surpriesd that women can't play. I didn't know that.

Ok ~ hope you're feeling better John!

For the record, I will definitely be playing in this event. It sounds great for $50. Also, it will be a good experience for the non-champion pool player. This is a really gorgeous room too. My only problem though with the whole thing is this: Some stone cold champion, who has never been in this room before, will come in and have to beat, maybe 3-4 other champions to win. Race to 7 helps the lower players, but when the tournament begins, I bet I could take 5-7 players and pick the winner amongst them. Easily. I really like OPCs' idea about the weekly tournament thing. They have a Thursday night 9-ball every week. How about give some sort of a points winner the trip. At the least, the champions would have to come in and play on a regular basis to get the freebie. In my opinion, giving some regular customer a once in a lifetime opportunity to play in the U.S. Open would be awesome for business. At the very least, make the tournament for non-professionals. I know that alot of judgement calls would have to be made on eligibility, but between pro lists and maybe the owner and some very good local players, they could keep it relatively fair. Plus, I believe this would make for a bigger turnout.
Just my opinions. :)

No Structure

I read your post and realize your concerns about qualifying against the stone cold champions, the first thing we must understand is there is virtually no structure in pocket billiards today. Take me for instance, I am no longer a pro but am very capable of winning the qualifier so there is very little distinction between an amateur and or a pro. For there to be structure we will have to stop having these invitationals, these tournaments are designed for not attracting the best players but more so the people who have deeper pockets which results in more political influence who never fail to make there way into the picture. As for qualifying it should be based off of your performance, the reason these top notch players will be there is because there is no structure on the men's tour and they will not have to pay a sanctioning fee to the upa. Plus the free air fare will attract many top Chicago player's, my point is players such as Marco, Jeff Carter, and myself would already be in the tournament if there was structure. This tournament does not have the prestige that it once did anyhow in my humble opinion, of course there will be lots of great players present. If you want to play in the Open I hope you get to but please do not feel any remorse towards the great players who are present at the qualifier, there just trying to make some $ cause that is how some survive as I'm sure you know. I don't have the answers to the dismal state of the men's org. but I do know there needs to be a seperation between the amateur's and the pro's.

Are you gonna play in this one?

I was surprised to see you at Red Shoes last week. I didn't realize players of your caliber would come all the way to Chicago for a little tournament like that.

I got to watch you for a while playing Ed Latimer before I had to leave. He got pretty close . How did Piggy and Marco fare?

Danny,
Good point. I have that problem with the amateur events that I run. When I tell someone they are not an amateur I get all kinds of remarks. Its a hard decision that we have to make sometimes and they don't like it. I stand and take it like a lady.....most times :p .....but there is no distinction. When the PBT was in force all knew where they stood and what they could play and what they couldn't. PBT had its problems but they did have a baiscally good idea on this. I find that most people run open events so they won't have to deal with it.
Thanks for the input
Kay

good luck

This event is coming up real soon, just bumping it back to the front of the line.

Eydie

Wish we good be there but we are moving that weekend. Pro-tyme is a beautiful room and Ed is a great host. This should be a great event for the room.

We are all getting ready for this event, I have heard that the spots are filling quick, so if you plan on attending, please contact them ASAP

I called the room tonight and they do not have any one particular hotel picked out for the event. I would mapquest/Yahoo directions from your home to the address and see what hotels they offer that way.

I called the Comfort Inn which is the closest to the Hall, but they are sold out. There are others close to the hall but I can't remember the names.

Book your room ASAP, and IF you have any problems contact me at windycityopen@aol.com and I would be happy to help you out.

Hey Dennis ~ Are you going to be at the event? Would be nice to see you.

Eydie

I may come by to watch. It's in my backyard. I'm taking care of my father this weekend, but we may be able to drop by. Any big names registered yet? Dennis
