Ultimate Pool KC Open

Well run event with good free stream and this is all you guys can bitch about?
Believe it or not, yes, this is the only thing I can bitch about. Brackets are pretty integral to any sporting competition in the US, I guess it isn’t in the UK. A glaring oversight, or is it just a cultural difference?

Didn't find this on the website, but they are showing it on the stream.

@garczar : you buddy and his crew at Side Pockets also did a great job hosting the event. Hopefully they made good money over the weekend.

the shot clock is great- especially when it gets down to 15 seconds per shot. In the match I was just watching, Bergman really had to hurry on some shots to runout- added some anxiety and suspense to the rack.

Earl should play in these tournaments considering how long he has been begging for shot clocks.

Bergman has regressed badly.

Anybody thinking he is USA's solution to the Mosconi Cup needs to wake up.

It also makes a mockery of the Fargo system. Bergman is a 700 player now.

Congrats to Chris Melling

There seems to be nothing the man can’t do on a pool table.
Except make balls on the snap.
Chris still found a way to win.
The man can play.

He looked great at times in this tournament, but badly choked away his match against Melling.

This is the first I've seen him play in a long time- we need to see more of him on a 9 footer to accurately judge

i didn't see the semi/final but watched justin's match against thompson in which think he played very well. especially considering the shot clock and his naturally slow style. in the hill-hill rack against thompson he got on the ultra short shot clock and had to kinda abandon his PSR, but he still got out. this format is always going to be a struggle for slow players, unless they adapt.

either way, what i saw definitely wasn't evidence for justin having "regressed".

Agree, I will give him the benefit of the doubt as he may have been rusty.

Let's see if he enters the US Open.

Bergmann is not a full time touring pro any longer. He played this 'cause it was in his backyard. Look, he's been paying the bills with his cue since he was about 15. Any of you keyboard nits say the same thing??? Give the guy a break.

Fargo ratings have a variance of like +/- 100.
People have bad days and good days.
Have you been in competition on a regular basis in any sport?
When was the last time he played a us open, 2019?
What makes you think he will play this year?

so i watched the semifinal. flawless until 5-2 or something. then he made what, 3 mistakes?

3 mistakes over 3 matches, that's probably at least the second best performance in the tournament.. granted it wasn't a very tough field, and barbox and short races, but still..

losing to melling in his specialty discipline, in a format that suits his pace exceptionally well, isn't something to be ashamed of either.

Dang. Watching this rn. That b&r by Melling in rack 5 is enough to take the wind out of anyone's sails.

Not going to lie, that was the most fun I've had watching a pro pool tournament in a long time. Mainly because a lot of these unknowns making it as far as they did, the shot clock, bar table 8 ball on a valley and the overall good production. It had such a great pace and I really enjoyed a lot of the commentary, especially from the UK players commentating on having to get used to the tables and balls compared to what they normally play on. This event got a thumbs up from me and I can't wait for the next one.

On a different note, and I'd figured I would share this with you guys. I was watching this with a few other players and one just randomly said, "here's another non-US entity doing pool better than anyone here in the states. Is anyone in this country, besides Mike Zuglan and Pat Fleming, ever going to step up and do something even remotely resembling this?"

i was thinking the same thing. it does make sense though since USA and UK are among the few countries where barbox 8-ball is a thing.

if it wasn't for the shot clock i would never ever have watched it. last time i watched barbox 8-ball was when CSI for some reason had US open 8b on barboxes, and rodney morris ran all racks, with a TPA 1.000, against scott frost like it was nothing. must have been 10 years ago.
