Ultimate Pool USA

I agree it's fun to watch, but I don't understand not being able to find a bracket anywhere for any of the tournaments.
Agreed. The stop here in AZ is going to be different than the previous ones. I only skimmed through the format before registering, but it looks like all players are guaranteed at least four matches. Assuming a full field of 128, they'd split into 32 groups of four players, and play everyone in their group once. The two best in each group advance to the final bracket, and the two worst would go onto the second chance tournament. I'll be excited to watch how they play that many matches AND the juniors, AND the women AND the doubles in one pool room over the weekend...

With the multiple round robins at the start, it's easy to keep the tables full, which is the most important part of scheduling. Are all of the matches with a match clock?

The TV table has the match clock and shot clock. All other tables they say they have an "unofficial 30-second shot clock". Dozers has about 20 bar tables, maybe they'll bring in a few more for the tournament!

I'm sure all the anti-barbox mafia folks will recoil in horror but i know a few people who have played these and all have said its the best organized/run pool they've ever played. These folks got their shit together.

I’m total dead money and that was my experience. I would gladly hand over my money to play in another one of these events.

can't argue with fun. i've usually struggled to watch BB pool but these are entertaining, especially the shootout invitational event

they have created an excellent mix of
bar box, 8-ball, shot-clock AND
match-clock pool that is so well done
that it can’t help but become popular

i think it’s cute that they call winning the
game by making the eight on the break
‘a golden break.’

Well, gee. it seems like someone in American pool actually finally looked at how they do things in other countries (this is the basic format for almost EVERY weekend tournament in Germany, so far as I know, and likely in other areas of Europe..).

Turns out.. People like coming to tournaments where they get a good amount of playing time for their entry fee.

Now, if only America would look to how leagues are run in Europe, we could pull ourselves out of this absolute tailspin the game is experiencing in America.

the shot clock is a BIG selling point. OK guys like bergman still play no miss pool, but that shot clock is forcing errors and rewarding confidence in instincts. plus it's a crash course in pressure for the up and coming players, who usually have little chance to get the TV table experience in WNT or predator events

cameras run by pool players
bright lights
no jump cues (didn’t see any)
quality tables

and they might have found that
one thing pool has been missing

that makes watching other people
play poker so successful
(we can see their cards)

a shot clock!
and a match clock!

it makes watching the games
fun and exciting and compelling

puts down a story line as obvious
as a two minute touchdown drive
by a star quarterback

or a 3-2 count on a batter in the
ninth inning with the bases loaded

it doesn’t matter if the audience
knows how to play the game
anybody can tell the good guys
from the bad guys and we all
want our favorites to win

oh yeah and
you don’t have to call the eight ball
