If you made the blank yourself you can do a lot to keep them even in the early turnings and hopefully they will stay close through the turning process. When you buy a blank and they are off a little, you may not have enough meat left in the cue for the offset needed to get them even. It is important that you indicate in the points before turning so at least they don't get worse.

It's also not that difficult to avoid.
Some care and planning, and decent equipment will yield excellent results.

some cue makers will file down the tips of the points to even them back up.

If its just a feather to get it dead perfect, then i see nothing wrong with it. BUt I have seen some cues that were filed down so much that they were dam near octagonal.....which even if the finish is turned round and polished it will feel through over time. As finish can flow just like old glass windows do.

I think they have changed the physics books by now as most have wised up to the fact that glass does not flow.

thats very interesting...hell i thought i had first hand knowledge that it was true lol. I was a forman on a plantation home rebuild into a bed&breakfast in college...and all the glass windows had that very thick bottom.

But a finish is not the same as glass which I'm sure we can both agree on...unless if the CM that built the cue I still have didn't try and get the finish round. I just figured that a CM would have the sense to at least do that. Not trying to knock the cue itself (from a very good CM) for it hits dam good...looks norman untill you spin the cue with the points in your hand and you can feel the ridges...just cant see it.
