After gluing, clean the hole with q-tip soaked in thinner .

If your fit of the insert is correct, meaning a snug fit. Just put GOOD epoxy on the insert. If it's a loose fit, plug it and do it again.

Proper fit as Mr. Webb mentioned, and way less glue than you're probably using. I put a very small amount in the hole and a liberal amount on the insert and never have an issue.

You don't need much glue, so squeeze out should be minimal.

In case you didn't know, that insert is infamous for spinning and coming off .
Grind or file two flats .
It's a horrible design for an insert .
Too short , too narrow and too fine of a thread .

Only takes a couple of minutes.
Installing self aligning inserts is not for everyone.
