United Joint / OB-1 and OB Classic

Couple of questions.

First of all, what's the difference between the OB-1 and the OB Classic, and how come the newer classic isn't listed on OB's website?

And, I'd like to buy a Mezz with the WD700 shaft. But I'd also like the option to change out shafts and try out the OB-1 and 314-2 on the Mezz but. Is this not possible since Mezz has a United Joint? i.e., can you get 314-2's, OB-1, and OB Classic with the Mezz United Joint?

Thanks!

Maybe I can answer your questions.

First, the difference between the OB line of cue shafts and the Classic line of cue shafts is the firmness or stiffness of the hit.

The OB line has the softer, quieter hit most players know the OB cue shafts by. The OB line can be identified by our familiar laminated maple ferrule. The OB-1 is 12.75mm at the tip, and the OB-2 is 11.75mm.

The Classic line features a much firmer, stiffer hit, and has more sound to the hit compared to the OB line. The Classics also have a short white ferrule instead of the laminated maple ferrule used on the OB line. The Classic is 12.75, just like the OB-1, and the Classic Pro is 11.75 like the OB-2.

Of course, the Classic line is also very low cue ball squirt or deflection, like the OB line.

As for the website, we are getting close to launching a new site, that will be quite a bit different than our current site, and it will show all our products along with some new things we have been working on for a little while. It will take a little while to get all the things we want done in the site, but it should turn out to be a great source for all kinds of information about shafts cues, and technology.

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to call us. I'm at the BCA Expo right now, but Doc is in the office weekdays. 877-399-9901.

Thanks

The United Joint is known to work with a shaft with a 5/16x14 insert, and having the silver ring also helps to match the ringwork. Perhaps Royce can confirm the fitting.

a 5/16x14 shaft will fit on but it won't have the tight fit of a united joint. if you want a real united joint shaft, you can order them overseas from japan. mezz produces most of the aftermarket shafts with united joint inserts (predator and ob shafts). that can be pretty expensive though, with the yen conversion and shipping. mezz USA can also get them as well, maybe a little cheaper. another option is that ryan theewen of rat cues/meullers has told me he can replicate the inserts and make shafts for mezz joints.
