Unknown Cue....anyone help identify ???

How

Well like I said those butt caps are not yellow and I have never seen one yellow Jaymans is still white look closely. I have seen a Joss with those patterns and I have seen a Jensen with that design . It is possable the shaft not origional to the cue and the cue was refinished with a epoxy based finish that is not on my old helmstetter.

Jayman is your stuff finished with a epoxy base coat and have you ever sen a Helmstetter with a 3 inch tapper?
Just woundering aloud after all you do know your Helmstetters!

I think you need to take the following into account.. the shaft as Jay said, 100% adam, the other thing that stands out like a sore thumb is the way the rings are offset to the bottom of the butt sleeve, EXACTLY like the brochure. Plus over time any thing could have happened to it, refinish, joint pin machined, etc.. Plus with a fatty steel joint, I am sure the cue hits a ton.

The "legend cues" IE: rempe, mizerack, murphy... all had a thicker joint wall than any of their other cues. wich is mentioned in the brochure. also, if it has not been sanded away, they have a very subtle taper. all the way up. Same as an original rambow.
Yes, several of mine have the same yellowed buttcap, The finish over the wrap is also original. I cant say for sure what they used back then, But on a rempe cue I sold my best friends son, it had not cracked. So I doubt if it was just laquer?
The other thing is at thirty years of age, and well used its ben exposed to sun light, shaft cleaning, re-tipping, so it may not be a mint example anymore.

Jay..

Nice to see an Adam collector..

Have you seen the bunch of them on billiardcue.com ?

JV

Jay & Joe, thanks for all the info. Yeah, the head of the joint pin and butt cap material were really throwing me. I have not seen this particular catalog of Adams, and this cue is not at all typical of the examples that I've seen. They really made some solid cues, early, though....I can tell you that with certainty from the earliest 1st catalog cues I've had/seen.

Scott, yeah, no doubt......and thank god we've got the best of all in this cue......zero dollars !!!!

Thanks to all who have taken a look and given consideration.

Yup,
I actualy bought one, then retuned it. it was so badly warped, Both butt and shaft! it is only good for an ornament now. I was realy bummed out about it. it was #2044.

Dick was a real gentelman about it I might add

Thanks for mentioning it:)

Hay Jay!

Do you still want to buy my Helmstetter Jim Rempe 6 series cue? $280.00 shipped!

Jay,

When I saw the pictures I said, that look's similar to my 1978 Adams JR-3
Jim Rempe model, but after looking at it again, I said it looked like a Tillis.
Here are the pics of my Adams to compare.

I'm Local To Where Frank Was From And Have Seen Alot Of His Cues First Hand. I Can Say With A Very High Level Of Certainty That It Is Not A Coster. Way To Many Things Are Not Coster-like.

Thanks for the information, I am always trying to learm more, so if you have time please PM me with what you see. I would be greatful for any information you have.

Thanks Manwon

That is a normal adams shaft, I have 18 or 20 just like it. the stainless 5/16x18 pin is correct for this cue, oh and heres the original sales brochure.
Most adams cues have no markings on them at all.

well thats clearly a diff. pin, butcap screw, butcap, and bumper size.

I think that you should check page 240 of the new Blue Book of cues and look at Frank Coster custom cues.

I have seen one of his level 2 cues first hand, and this cue has allot similarities!!!

My best guess would be a Helmstetter or a Coster, but I must say that I am leaning to-wards a Coster.

Manwon
All Coster's cues were flat faced.;)
I'd guess old refinished Adams.

The pin is a common pin used for adams in the early 1980's, when they got away from the pointy pin. this was the most commonly used pin in the adams made palmers as well.they used several types of pins over the years. My cues are mostly early 1970's. thus the points. (but even still, not all of them) the bumper is a standard adams from 1980-81 up. I have a supply of new old stock. Both brown and black.I was simply showing that the material was also a common product used by adams as well. the mushroom cap and the straight bumper were fased out around 1980 in favor of the helmstetter style as is the case with this early 80's cue

The cue has its original finish as well, adams did in fact spray over wraps.oddly seen mostly on the "legend series cues" and from the apearent age and abuse it is surely the original.
