Unknown cue ebony points ivory joint #?*_!) pin

That cue looks like the best of both worlds. Classic 4 point with veneers, just the right amount of detail in the butt, for me, and an ivory joint with a big pin. If I was in the market for a cue, this would be it. Good luck.

I really like that cue! I'm going to keep up with this thread to see what it might be. Good luck on selling it, although I think it should sell fairly easily! I might even try to come up with an offer for you.

My hunch is that it is an early Ariel Carmeli. The reason why I say that is because the pin is shaved the same way as a TAD Harvey Martin tribute cue, also the joint is a solid piece similar to TAD cues for his big pin. The fancy veneer ring work matches what TAD would have done, though there are other cue makers that have used fancy veneer rings with different color schemes. Ariel Carmeli has stated he was influenced by TAD's work since his involvement in cue repair at Best Billiards in Santa Ana where they used to stock TAD cues on a regular basis. I even got to test hit a TAD1M at Best Billiards back in the day. But, then again, it's just a hunch. I'm not positive that it is.

A close friend of mine brought over a cue with a 3/8-10 pin, ivory joint, and nice ivory ringwork from an older unknown builder. Points are nice, looks to be an older cue from the 1970's or so from the veneers. The butt sleeve looks like ebony also with great striping. Comes with one shaft with ivory ferrule about 13mm.

The Predator 314 shaft is one of the first original 314's without the cat logo and also has a longer ferrule and is about 11.6 mm. This shaft can be purchased besides the cue with the original ivory ferrule shaft.

Please PM offers if interested. No trades please.

John, that is certainly a nice looking cue, however, I don't think that it is very old. There are many indicator's, the Pin style, the linen used in the wrap, the bumper, and the fact that the threads are perfectly clean with no wear. I could be wrong, but I suspect that the cue was recently made or that it was refinished and many parts including the shaft are new.

I would have to agree with manwon, I believe it is newer than suspected. Butt cap and bumper matches what Ariel would use. You may want to get in contact with Martin @ Western Cue to see what he has to say. He maybe able to get pictures of the cue to Ariel Carmeli to maybe help with ID'ing the cue.

After talking to the owner I found out that the cue has been refinished, the wrap has been replaced, also the ivory joint was cracked and replaced. Hope this helps. When you look at the veneers up close you can tell the cue is much older than the finish and the wrap.

Also, owner says he will consider trades now.

John

Hello John was the shaft also replaced at that time, because if you look at the threads in your photo's they are not even dirty or worn. I mean compare the Predator shaft and the original shaft for the cue, the shaft for the cue looks new. But even with that said, with all the work that was done to the cue it is basically a new cue anyway.

Thanks John

I sorta get a Jensen feeling....

Any ballpark estimate as to how much he wants for the cue....I don't want to waste his time calling him unless we're close on price.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe there was a signature under the wrap or in the bumper?

Number problems

The phone number provided is not working and PM's are not yet answered. Is there another contact method (i.e... e-mail, different number...etc...).

Thanks

Now that I think about it, I think its an Andy Gilbert. He shaves his big 3/8x10 pins in the same manner and does use that fancy veneer ring work.

What do you guys think the value is since the maker is unknown?

That's a great question, and the reason I don't want to waste this persons time. It's hard to see how nice the cue is in the photo's. It looks good overall, however the end of the points look not so good. It may be the photo's, but it's putting me off from wanting to pursue it. I could see the guy asking anywhere from $300 to $2000. I'd be hard pressed to offer $400 not knowing what it is....

Of course, knowing my luck, it's probably a Szamboti....

Speaking of which, if it was a well known cuemaker, how in the heck does someone not know what they have?
