Unknown Sneaky Pete Cue

Picked this cue up recently. Though there are no makers name / logo on the cue it appears to be very well made. Very nice birdseye forearm into what looks to be a cocobolo butt section, shaft looks old, tight grain and dense at nearly 4.4oz. The one strange thing is how the bumper has been fitted, it looks like the recess has been cut out by hand as it looks very rough compared to the rest of the cue, anyone seen anything like this before??

I’ve seen house cue conversions where they drilled out the ass end like this and then drilled and tapped a smaller channel inside the larger one to add a weight bolt.

Nice piece of wood for an SP and perhaps it was originally without a bumper and the owner had the butt end drilled out for a bumper but I suspect that he may have done that to lighten the back end of the cue as well to change the balance point

I found an old Valley SP and the butt was oversized - had Proficient taper down the butt and it is now as good as any Scruggs or Frey SP in terms of hit and feel. Photo of original Valley SP butt- same as Scruggs utilized - I paid only $40 for it and straight as an arrow.

Never seen a bumper channel that bad. Looks like it was done with a pocket knife. Just a home made sneaky. Probably hits great, nice wood too. Prob a Schmelke blank. Could be asian but even they wouldn't do a hack job on that bumper channel.
