Unknown US players who have come on to the pro pool scene and beat everyone?

I am curious about players in the past that have come onto the pro pool scene out of nowhere (players that nobody has ever seen or heard of) and just started beating everyone on the scene.

Have there been many players like this in the past?

Maybe players that just played by themselves on their home table, and never competed, until one day they just went onto the pro pool scene and started beating everyone (including all of the top pro's)?

I assume that if there were any players like this in the past, then it rarely ever happened (like a player that nobody has ever heard of, maybe even including the players home town, who just came onto the pro pool scene, and started to destroy everyone that they competed against).

Just a crazy thought I just had in my mind, but maybe there have been players like this in the past?

You can note international players too, if you do not know of any US players from the past that fit this description (of the way I describe any players coming onto the pro pool scene).

Thanks.

Are you really asking if someone plays alone and gets good enough to play pro tournaments without ever playing under pressure before, come on now.

The first one I can think of who might fall into that category was Harold Worst. ???
And "Cesar Morales" robbed 'em all at Red's 'way back when'. They didn't know what hit them. (But he was well seasoned from wars in the Phillipines.)

They're two that come right to mind , and I think most would agree they were probably the best ever to do so . Their pool names were Mr New York and Arizona Cash. Unbelievable amounts of racks strung playing 9 ball, they would have been world records had they been done in an official setting rather than while gambling and Arizona beat Mosconi's straight pool record by 400+ balls - but once again it was unofficial so not reconized. Arizona was taken from us WAY too soon - as he was shot to death over a hustle situation. Both stories are chronicled right here on AZ.

beat everyone? how often? one tournament?

Tommy Kennedy was known by every pool player in Miami and he gambled too.

Dick Lane was pretty much an unknown when:

In 1973, competing in the U.S. 14.1 Open, a prestigious straight-pool tournament, he toppled two top rivals, Ray Martin and Danny DiLiberto. Based on that performance, he was asked to play in the inaugural Pabst Brunswick 14.1 Invitational Tournament in 1974. He was one of six competitors, and the other five were all future Billiard Congress of America Hall of Famers. Lane finished first, defeating Luther “Wimpy” Lassiter in the finals—to this day, a major highlight of his career.

I figure before the internet you could be unknown in some areas and social circles. To play at a very high level without any tournament or gambling pressure before is far fetched

I am curious how known SVB was before he came onto the pro pool scene. Was he known just locally where he is from, or was he known nationally from amateur accomplishments? Sorry, I have always been pretty clueless about the pool scene, because I was never really in it, and never purchased the billiard magazines.

It was just a thought that came to mind. I imagine you all have silly questions that come to mind sometimes (that you do not create a thread about), but I do not know. I thought it might be an interesting topic.

I really mean there are no stupid questions.

<<< full of stupid questions

A few players from taiwan did, only unknown in some circles though, a few phone calls solved that

Well they don't sneak around in today's world to long on a lessor scale many chau snuck around the north east for a while even playing in APA masters for a while before they caught up to him

Shane was winning things like the VNEA nationals long before he turned pro. Those things made him fairly well known in amateur pool.
