Unknown US players who have come on to the pro pool scene and beat everyone?

mark Tadimy or Tadd was a great player that would play anyone. keep thinking we might see a comeback.

He was at the DCC this year and in action. He was NOT playing like a monster and was losing to a top middle eastern player (and getting weight). If he is going to make a comeback, he's going to need to get his game back up to speed.

Pretty well known. He's the son of Timi Bloomberg (former national champion) and, as Scott Lee mentioned, Shane won some big amateur events, so he was not some surprise out of nowhere.

Also, with the Derby City Classic, he was a young gun that everyone who attended got to watch year after year grow into a superstar.

Here's a thread. I apologize for the format (it happened a lot in those days of copy and paste where object linking wasn't so seamless), but it's nicely fixed in someone's quote of the initial post. I also apologize for horrible writing/non-editing. That also happens as a result of much drinking and loss of sleep at the DCC.

I disagree with this. I think SVB was very unknown relative to what he achieved in 2006-2008.

Of course his family knew him. Of course he had friends and people in his circle that knew what he was capable of. But winning a league tournament? Hundreds of amateurs win league tournaments in vegas. That means nothing.

Proof that SVB was unknown was how eager Cory was to come out and play him. And the reaction from the masses. Look up threads of SVB prior to that match and in anticipation of that match. No one gave SVB a chance. Given that, what he did was totally astonishing to everyone. In my life I've never seen a bigger out of no-where story.

Agreed. He occassionally made a great shot but he was far from top pro speed.

Kim Davenport one time told me while I was interviewing him said that he was the best at taking time off and then getting back to top speed again quickly. Pretty tough for most folks.
