can you 'unsticky' threads?
i'm just never going to click most of those threads, and especially on mobile they take up like the whole dang first page.
nitty but it's annoying. i can't figure out if there's anyway to get rid of them. seeing if anyone knew how.

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that ping.
It's damn annoying, even on desktop, but much more so on mobile. There should be one sticky with everything linked in there IMO. Never more than about 3, that just starts getting messy.

When I used to mod a VERY LARGE car forum, the touchy-feely rule was 5 stickies. Any more, nobody pays attention, plus obvious real estate burden.

Any less than 3 nobody opened them...

Your mileage may vary....

I just got in the habit of a spin/release on my mouse scroll wheel...so put me in the class of never reading them...

EDIT: Yea 14 is WAY to many.

The Sticky Threads don't bother me a bit. I'm used to them and use my desktop or 13" iPad, both with reasonable real estate.

However, I could see an argument for doing so to make a cleaner, more efficient look (and hopefully, function).

Below is a starting point for discussion (although I'm 99% sure it won't happen as I don't see the benefit for the effort; only aesthetics).

We've been complaining for 20 years about too many stickies. Its never gotten better.
Good point. Given i bet mobile traffic (where it's way more inconvenient) has gone from negligible 20 years ago to likely the vastly overwhelming majority now maybe it'll be reconsidered.

IMO, the only sticky thread should be for rules. Those rules should be completely re-written, concise, and in one thread only. Lock that thread also. When rules are added/deleted/changed, edit that single post concisely. Not create 3 new rules threads.

The rest un-sticky. They will swim or sink on their own with new posts. Champions of any current sticky threads can bump them from time to time if they have become forgotten.

Put 'em all in a separate forum.
Good idea really, just have one sticky that says "Forum Rules and Stickies, Read First Before Posting"

Or something similar. It's really all that's needed.

Then the actual stickies can be in their own subforum.

According to Chat GTP here is a summary of the 3 rule pages. You could tailor this pretty easily without having to write it by hand.
Forum Rules:

  1. Registration and Agreement: Registration is free, but users must agree to abide by the forum rules detailed below. By registering, users agree to comply with these rules.
  2. Content Responsibility: While moderators strive to keep objectionable content off the forum, users acknowledge that all posts reflect the views of the author. The forum owners and administrators are not liable for the content of any message.
  3. Content Guidelines: Users must refrain from posting any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.
  4. Civil Conduct: Ad hominem attacks, name-calling, or insults are strictly prohibited. Disagreements are acceptable, but must remain respectful. All posts must maintain a civil tone.
  5. Pool-Related Sales: Items for sale or trade must be pool-related. Cash offers for non-pool items are not allowed. Wanted to buy posts must also be for pool-related items only.
  6. Moderator Authority: Forum moderators reserve the right to remove, edit, move, or close any thread for any reason deemed necessary.
  7. Wanted/For Sale Section Rules:
    • Posts must contain items for sale, trade, or wanted to buy.
    • Posts without these items will be deleted or moved by moderators.
    • All sale or trade items must be pool-related or offered strictly for trade for a pool-related item.
    • No cash offers are allowed for non-pool items.
  8. Interactions in Sales Threads:
    • Users are not allowed to criticize or complain regarding pictures, prices, etc., in sales or trade threads.
    • Disagreement with a thread is not an excuse for disrespectful behavior. Use of an escrow service for larger purchases from uncertain members is encouraged.
  9. Respectful Conduct:
    • The forum is for civil discussion, akin to a local pool room. Personal attacks, troll accusations, hate speech, or any suggestion of harm, violence, or death are strictly prohibited.
  10. Freedom of Speech Clarification:
    • While the US constitution guarantees freedom of speech, it does not extend to privately owned websites. Users must adhere to forum guidelines.
  11. Disagreements with Administration/Staff or Guidelines:
    • Public arguments with moderators or administration are not allowed. Suggestions or disagreements should be respectfully communicated via private message.
  12. Complaints Protocol:
    • Complaints about products, services, or organizations require accountability with the full real name of the complainant.
  13. Privacy Policy:
    • Users must keep private correspondences private. Sharing private information regarding other users is strictly prohibited.
  14. Reporting Violations:
    • Users are encouraged to report any comments or posts that violate forum rules.
  15. News Link Guidelines:
    • Specific guidelines are in place for posting news links, including restrictions on posting links outside the forum.
  16. Penalties:
    • Violations of forum rules may result in warnings, bans, or loss of posting privileges, depending on the severity and recurrence of the offense.
This detailed set of rules covers various aspects of forum participation, ensuring a respectful and constructive environment for all users.

I could see adding the actual link guidelines in that section since it didn't specify them.

I view this forum on a cell phone. Went to the main page and had to swipe my right thumb up twice to get past the stickies.

I'd join in and bitch with you all but I'm wore out.
