Unusual Schmelke joint

Yesterday a friend showed me a cue he inherited from his grandmother (she played until she was 91 years old!). He knows nothing about cues, and I only know a little more than him.

But I noticed it was a Schmelke (which a number of AZers recommended to me when I bought my first cue). When I unscrewed the joint I was surprised to see this. Maybe it's not so uncommon, but I'd never seen it before.

Have you?

the 1st time i saw that joint on a Schmelke I was surprised too
that was years ago i think that is common for Schmelke
they hit pretty good

Fairly typical, I think. My first cue was a Schmelke with that fat brass joint. I've seen a couple of others like that. I did order their 14oz cue and it had a standard pin, but the damn thing unscrewed about 3 or 4 inches and now it's worthless.

It's one of many different joints they offer.... very weight forward as you can imagine. I have the same joint on a 60" wrapless that weights 24 oz, and has a 14MM shaft... use to be my break cue.....
