As many of you might know i get a lot of my shafts from old one piece house cues, i have 75 to 100 hanging most of the time, so when i need a shaft i just go over to the rack, find the size and color i'm looking for and check the turned date.
I got a shaft couple days ago and was getting it ready to fit the butt, it might have been made from a one piece house cue, or just the shaft from an old 2 piece cue, i do not know. I kept noticing something of a different color between the grains, could not quite put my finger on it. I sanded it to finish size, and put on some of hightowers sealer, put on my head piece with magnifaction and to my suprise the shaft was made using two different pieces of maple. It was equal halves with the center drilled right between the splice, I could also see the seam running from joint end to the tip. It is a really stiff shaft, and plays great. Could it be an early attempt at a laminated shaft ? Has anyone ever ran across a 2 piece lamined maple shaft ?
