Update of PP 9-Ball Tour Season Opener

good Morning everybody! Im just kidding, I have been up for a long time.
I had a nice weekend, met some really nice people and played so much pool that my arm hurts today. I hung with JAM and Sueyen and Bazarus and Alinco and CC and NickP and Mark Bear. I hope they all had as nice a time as I. Alinco will not share his ice cream. Dont ask.

Despite the good time I just said I had, I might be lying because I feel like I took a bad butt-whippin., I did.
I played good all weekend and had some tight matches that I stepped up to and pulled out. But the buttwhipping part is what sticks with me. In the finals of the winners side, BJ kept me in my chair and only made one error. I made a couple of tough kicks to get out of his safes, but he ran out all 3 times. then he broke and ran 4 racks. I ended up losing 9-1.
Then I played eddie Abraham. e broke and ran out. Then he broke and scratched. I ran out to the 6, missed, 2-0. He broke and ran 5 racks, end of session and tornament for me! 7-0.
Sometimes you are the hammer, sometimes you are the nail. Those guys who beat me played really good but I still didn't like to lose.
Glad to hear keith beat Gerry, its usually good to have either of em in the room unless you have to play them.

Show me a guy who likes to lose, and I'll show you a loser. :p

Don't feel like the lone soldier about getting drilled by B.J. I watched Danny Green barbecue Keith, with Keith had him 4-zip, racing to 9. Lee Holt, though, was the surprise in the tournament (IMO). He managed to keep running rack after rack, and he got the attention of many competitors at this event. Eddie Abraham has good table etiquette, and I enjoyed watching him play. He was stuck in several matches big time. Yet, he never gave up, showed no fear, and grinded his way to the finish line. This weekend, B.J. Ussery looked like he could do no wrong. He walked in with an air of confidence, and he showed up every single match.

Hey, coming in third place in that field of 120 players isn't too shabby, Walter. You deserve a little credit for your excellent play. See you next time!

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments. It was a 121 player Open event, and even with the horrible weather, we had 30 women arrive on Sunday Morning, all by 11:20 (we extended the players meeting just in case). So - we had a record breaking weekend - last year 147 total players - this year 151.
We are sorry that we didn't post an update yesterday. As is with most in the pool world, Andy, Nick and myself all have full time jobs. Congratulations to all of our players who placed, and those who endured the long weekend.

We are doing 8-ball and we are limiting it to Amateur players. Basically - it comes down to what was said earlier. We want a forum for the league players to work on their tournament skills and thereby enable them to move into the Open division. It is listed as the Open - under the 8-ball amateur tour. Just to clarify - we are also having a women's division in the 8-ball on Sundays - the women are welcome to play in the 8-ball on Saturday and Sunday - thereby preventing us from calling it a Men's tournament.
We are looking forward to the first 8-ball event. We've never gone outside of the 9-ball tour. We're excited to see the turn out.

JAM is absolutely correct in the reasoning for single elimination finals. Even with the single elimination finals - we didn't get out until 1:30. That of course was after the finals started at Midnight - then loading up the cars with our equipment right after.

We always welcome your opinions and insight, JAM we love you for the work you do - I hope you finished your regular work that caused you to leave so early on Sunday. We'll keep you all posted on the 8-ball event and either it's success or failure.
