Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Sooo, Christmas Party at Rube's in Waukee starts at 11:30 which means we are all clearing out in 10 minutes or so. We only are allowed 4 drinks but that should be plenty to get my day started. My bad luck also got me drawn randomly to have to sing a christmas song with 3 other people. Apparently the song is called "Rusty Chevrolet", same tune as Jingle Bells. Let's say I'm not too pumped for that. I still have 4 more raffle tix out there so maybe I'll win one of the prizes, a Starbucks Cappucino Maker is one of the prizes and that's what I'm gunning for. I put all my tickets in there, felt like the TV's and Laptops had way too many tickets in there to have a chance. As of now I have about a 1 in 3 chance for my item of choice.

**Topic of the Day** I won't be here but last night Athens, Jody, and I had an interesting conversation. It revolved around quitting winner and circumstances that make that okay.

- Is it okay to quit winner ever?

- Is it okay to quit winner because you got drunk and are ahead?

- Is it okay to quit winner because it's late or you have to leave?

- Is it okay to quit winner because you like how far ahead you are and consider that to be a good enough score?

- Is it okay to quit winner without ever giving someone a shot at their money back(In other words never betting enough that even if the other person wins they can get back to even money)?

- Is it okay to quit winner if the original game is adjusted in any way?

- Is it okay to quit winner because the bet has been raised?

Any other situations you guys can think of to add to this. I don't want to start a thread on it as I'm just curious what people here think.

My take is someone else's money is always live and they can chase it for however long they want to and the game ends when the loser says it ends, that's under any circumstance. If you gotta leave early take half the money and keep the other half in play for the scheduled re match.

General etiquette. Depends on what's been discussed. To me the only way to quit a winner, is to let them know I'm playing this much more, which if they win would be enough to at least allow them to break even and perhaps win. But try to discuss the variables before hand. So when's the scotch start? tonight or tomorrow?

How much to play in the tournament? I'm thinking about playing, and hopefully I won't dog it and let anyone down.

Is the Saturday tournament a random draw for partners, or can any two people sing up and play?

Oh, and I think it's ok to quit ahead as long as you agree to play again sometime. I never could understand people who try to play for over 12 hours straight and let the guy get their money back without making them shoot good to get it.

Im assuming you are playing? I see no one yet signed up for tomorrows tourny. If I am the only one that signs up and gets first I still lose money. Awesome lol.

I will be playing the AZ one yes. He was talking about some other tournaments ive done well in recently.

?

Ray/Mikey - you stay long enough to see who won tourny?

The team which shoulda done better had to go home early, cause I can't play.:o:sorry:

I don't know who won but I want to be the first to congragulate Chase and Mike W. for being the first team, and I bet only team all night, for calling a foul on the one coach per game rule. It truely exeplified sportsmanship within the spirit of the rules. Calling it when the match was going hill hill, and the coaching wasn't even verbal, but pointing to a ball with my stick, truely showed their heart and character. However, some referred to it as as gay and chickenshit.

Shannon and Hearl won the tourney and the $400 for 1st. Baccus and Anthony got 2nd and $250. Don't know anything more than that.

I ended up making a few hundred on the night myself so it wasnt a bad night.

That's pretty lame for sure. Especially in a tourney where most of us are friends and the atmosphere was more fun than screw someone over to get ahead.

It was definitely a good time, even though I dogged a few shots and probably cost us the match. I think that the one coach rule should go away though. What was the point of it anyway?

The one coach per game rule is silly. If you want to break that rule, all you have to do is go line up your next shot before you shoot the shot you are on.

I thought this was interesting.
