The reason I bring up bad equipment is the fact that the racks will be inconsistent. You will almost never have the same rack twice. The whole basis behind pattern racking is a consistent rack. If you don't have that then you won't have the same pattern.
I'll give you that you may not get super consistent break patterns. But wouldn't you agree that unless the equipment/rack is exceedingly poor that you can still accomplish getting the 2 ball to the same end of the table as the 1 ball on most breaks? (or to an area friendly to where you are squatting the cb if you are making the 1 on the break) If you don't know where to put the 2 ball in the rack, this becomes a crapshoot. I know the bottom line is you still have to execute shots to get out. My take is that for A players and above it really lessens the game. (and for lower than A players like me it probably doesn't matter as much, so why do it?)
