Update on the Des Moines pool scene

If you are comparing to watching tv vs hitting balls I would agree. But if you are talking about $$$ and Time I will have to respectfully disagree. Money is needed to gamble, take lessons, and play in tournaments agreed? There is no way practice alone will do you any good other then being able to beat your buddy consistently or play really well on your own table. Time is also a factor. The time needed to play is a variable that changes depending on the person and their skill level. I would probably need to put in a hell of a lot of hours to be one of the top players in Des Moines and that is only if I obtain the skill, nerves, smarts, and passion to do so agreed? Working 5 days a week, having a life of friends and a girlfriend, as well as other hobbies take time. Sure I can hit some balls with the girl, but that will only do me so good and I will not improve my game that way. I straight up told ever if I ever wanted to push myself to the limit and (Army quote) be all I can be, she will rarely see me because I will be out playing in tournaments, gambling, practicing by myself or with a partner that is as good or better. Do you think she wants to just watch the whole time??? Yes I can let her play, but you and I know this only is for hang out purposes and not to make my game better.

Edit...and as for the $$$ I don't mean cheap $5 tournaments or $5 dollar sets...but actual nice amount of dough to do all these things and still pay the bills that I scrape to pay each month.

Amen Matt! You took the words out of my mouth!

Great! F'in Great!!! I think they're bonding.....GREAT!!!!

I talked to John M. by the way and he is going to ask you for some weight to play again. After you say no, I'm sure he'll say fine and play you even again. Damnit!

Yea, i am aware you are sticking your nose in it. Mostly by the fact he says, i need the 7 after all you're up 14 games, lol.

My reply was: Sounds like im talking to Frost. Not so sure why you are worried about a game you have no money in.

Sounds like you should quit too and we can play scotch doubles matches at the house. I think our girls could beat us...thats sad and hopefully not true. You got a drinking match to prepare for buddy so pick up a 6 pack on the way home.

He's a good kid and you're a Locksmith. I got a flat tire he helped me out. You guys woofed and he had our back. I might not have cash in on it but as far as I'm concerned when the line got drawn he stood next to us. He's young and I don't want you to be the reason he stops playing pool because he's a hell of a bowler and he doesnt have any real incentive to be a pool player.

I'm not telling you to give him weight or not, I can careless what you do on your end. As far as he goes though I want him to make sure he has a fighting chance. Like I said he's a good kid, he asked me what I thought and I told him. That simple.

It has no bearing on what you do though. Didn't you give me a lecture about Karma like 20 pages ago???

Yes father....I know....stop yelling at me. I will be a good boy I promise..lol

No seriously. For years in league play we've all been pretty good. We've had some success in team tournaments and what not. But you wanna know the sad truth. And this is something Athens said to me, thats been on my mind for weeks now.

"Pool players in Des Moines are not really that good" (hes talking about the top players guys)

"The best players here need weight from the best players in any other town"

And you know what, he is right. Ive been watching alot of live streams from other towns, they have alot of people who play great. Thats one of reason Scott Frost moved to AZ was because he had no competition here. That is one of the reason why Don McCaughey doesnt play anymore.

/rant off

Frost the difference is, i dont care if i play. He wants a piece of me, i could careless if i play him again. That make sense to you ? I dont need to gamble i dont need the action.

Im glad he took your *side* i made some nice money because of it. I still feel like i owe you.

matt, bruce...... you guys know damn well what i am talking about.

I could take a guess but no need to get into it with that much detail. Bruce and I are both blessed with some natural ability for barely playing at all or not playing "serious" with the intent of trying to be the best. I am thankful for that.

On a side note Mr. Richardson do not forget how thankful I was to meet and learn some tips from you and the bro (and others) growing up and how pissed I was for you guys not teaching me some things because you didn't want me to get too good too quick (and hurt the APA team from moving up too quick too soon). I was pissed at the time, but I understand now...just throwing that in there for the "passion" part ;).

Ah the days of being a 2 in APA...yes I used to be a 2 in APA.

Make a donation to the March of Dimes and that will do if you genuinely feel like you me.

Quitting winner is fine. People will remember that for a long time though. In Des Moines though it wont matter much so you're good.

Yes you both ARE blessed. You both have amazing natural talent. And yes with the both of you we taught you the APA way of playing pool. And i am a little sorry for that.

This is the first time, and maybe the only time, that I agree with Mike Athens. That is the absolute truth. We need more of these young guys to come up through the ranks and push everyone to be better.

I dont know if you noticed, but i dont try to make people like me. I say what needs to be said and i tell it like it is. If people accept that than we can be friends, when they dont they, well ............... i think you know.

One thing i know about matching up is, once you give up too much weight its hard to get it back. Specially if its close. I mean how can i give a spot to a guy who was up 4 in a 7 ahead set, and went out side talking trash about how i suck and he will play me forever. Then he comes back in and cant play anymore and he misses three 7 balls and a 9 to lose the set. He got himself all pumped up and forgot he had to win the set first to get even.

Edit: who did i quit winner on ?

You know what they say about a leader who moves to slow??? He gets lost in the crowd. I'm not a background dancer either Jason. Sometimes I think you say too much. Sometimes you get personal for no apparent reason. That's fine I can deal with it.

I don't know what the game is between you guys but what I know is this. It took you 0.2 seconds to wanna play him even and your brother even made a post about bet what he wants. That lets me know you are well aware you have the nuts in an even game. It also took you 0.2 seconds to want to play Pet getting the 6. Same scenario.

A buddy of mine PM'd me to say man I'm from Des Moines all we do is steal. Unless John gets on here sayin he didnt want my advice I wont feel wrong in giving him a line that I think makes it a 60/40 game at best(YOU are the 60). I dont wanna do 10 pages about this, thats just my thoughts Mr. Locksmith.

Love,
Team Barbaro

47 pages, after I said I quit 20 times, I just mighta mistakenly read your post as you stepping up and wanting to play something on the big table...no kiddie box, something where you need a stroke to move around the table. That sounds super good to me chap.
