Update on the Des Moines pool scene

What does putting aside personal BS have to do with the pool room? In order for there to be a team to sponsor, they have to start by putting all that stuff behind them. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like these guys can stop holding grudges. I don't get it, why wouldn't you put that behind you in order to potentially win a big tourney or two? Just settle the differences already!! It's not that hard.

You must be built like an android on the inside. People dont snap their fingers and everything is squashed. Human nature just does not allow for that. The issues are deep seeded and lot's of people have them. There is no good way to work it out or solve it. Time heals all wounds...only time can fix this mess. A tourney is cool but would you put a tourney win above your own morals, ethics, and personal feelings. Absolutely not. Pool is a thing we do sometimes, but we all have to live with ourselves full time. People have to see goodwill gestures, hear apologies, work issues out 1 on 1. That can only happen when both parties involved are open to doing that. I personally am not ready to even consider working my problems out. I'm ok with that.

Congrats that must have been a nice win to get. Is the team stacked or just some good players that have a good time...i bet it's the latter.

We're talking next level though. There are 100s of teams that make it to nationals that all have a legitimate chance to win. We're talking a whole new level of sponsorship. If you want new results you gotta do something new.

Mike, I understand that I'm not on the "GREATNESS" team. I was talking more about how the bar was a low income category bar and how it sponsored us anyway.

I can't believe the personal shit ya'll whine about. This forum is a haven for cry babies. You either play or you don't. Either enjoy playing or, hmm, maybe don't play. Wonder what some would do if they actually enccountered a real crisis. Embrace the game, the characters, the action, or leave it the xxxx alone. It's not THAT complicated. I mean, none of you are going pro. Maybe have fun, it works for me.

I'm not a pro? Since when did this happen? Did my procard get revoked at this years annual meeting of the minds, and no one thought it would be nice to just drop a letter in the mail.........:withstupid::wink:

action

Since I got hometown pride and I don't want you to come to Des Moines for nothing, I'd at least like to give you some gas money to get back home and I'd just like to play you a fair game, I'm up for some abuse.

I don't want to insult you and play for something inferior to your standards, but I will play you for $50/$100 a set. Minimum 2 sets,(you have option of raising the second set if you lose the first one) race to 7,you give me 3 games. (If you need to check my speed, just ask anyone on here and they will tell you that you should be a lock to win).

If anything, leave this offer till the last minute if you can't get a "real" game.

:help: Someone please step up and play Tom so I don't have to insult him and play him for coupons! :duck:

I have no clue who you are or how you play, but you have a game sir,There is a slight chance I might get off of work around 2 on friday. I'm leaving directly from work so that puts me in des moines around 8-9 I would gladly play then .

It's a forum gdog. This is what some of us do to bide the time. Call it whatever makes you feel good. Your post looks like you got halfway through it and realized you were crying about cry babies, thats ironic. I guess its time for me to cry about the people who cry when they think other people are crying...is that what we're up to now?

Respectfully, you don't have any clue and are not an authority on whether anyone is going pro or not. Instead of telling people what they can't do or shouldnt do, make a post about what they can do. Encourage someone to do something good. Your half flame just doesnt sit well with me.

doubles

I'm making an offer, dave coles is interested in coming with(owns the carom room in beloit) is there the possibility of jamie and someone else playing scotch doubles with any two of the three of us? or anyone else for that matter? heard jamie and dustin G:eek:sometimes travel together. just throwing out names not trying to be disrespectful!

Oh, be positive like mike? Thanks mike, I didn't know how it worked. You even know what i'm thinking? You don't know shit about me and because it's a forum i'll add my two cents whenever and however i choose. Little on the defensive end are ya?

Pops, you are my hero lol. I have to appreciate the beer you drink, as well as your sharp/honest tone of voice.

Wow

I take a weekend off and look what happens  lol. Anyway most of you know who I am and know that I am a C player at best.

I am a poor factory working farm boy but I will play anyone in the country for the joy of playing no betting unless its for a drink and I love the action that has been stirred up.

Mikey I might just have to come up to Stix on Sat night just to hang out and have a few drinks.

And to Jon Brown, Dogs has become a haven for me to get away from the BS of home life and will continue to be so.

As for the Wis guys coming down I love it! Hope you guys can find some action and really cant wait to meet you all.

Hope to see all you guys soon!

We( our little poker group ) has an 'end of the year tourney friday at 7pm(should take us about 3 hrs). I planned to come up to Big Dogs after that to play Pet(i thought you weren't playing friday?) but if Pet and I don't play(I'm sure he wouldn't mind waiting for another day) then we can play friday night around 10pm-11pm. By no means wait for me if you find a better game. If that doesn't work out, I'm sure we can find another time this weekend.

Remember, I'm just a small fry looking to see how I stack up against a Big Dog!!!

If you are comparing to watching tv vs hitting balls I would agree. But if you are talking about $$$ and Time I will have to respectfully disagree. Money is needed to gamble, take lessons, and play in tournaments agreed? There is no way practice alone will do you any good other then being able to beat your buddy consistently or play really well on your own table. Time is also a factor. The time needed to play is a variable that changes depending on the person and their skill level. I would probably need to put in a hell of a lot of hours to be one of the top players in Des Moines and that is only if I obtain the skill, nerves, smarts, and passion to do so agreed? Working 5 days a week, having a life of friends and a girlfriend, as well as other hobbies take time. Sure I can hit some balls with the girl, but that will only do me so good and I will not improve my game that way. I straight up told her if I ever wanted to push myself to the limit and (Army quote) be all I can be, she will rarely see me because I will be out playing in tournaments, gambling, practicing by myself or with a partner that is as good or better. Do you think she wants to just watch the whole time??? Yes I can let her play, but you and I know this only is for hang out purposes and not to make my game better.

Edit...and as for the $$$ I don't mean cheap $5 tournaments or $5 dollar sets...but actual nice amount of dough to do all these things and still pay the bills that I scrape to pay each month.
I strongly agree spimp it is hard working 9-5 but for me its 7- whenever and having a life of friends and a girlfriend and a son yeah like u said i can hit balls with her but it does me no good im pretty lucky she doesnt like pool lol. but i give those guys props for having a family and a job and still be good at pool, i mean if any of us just played pool and no job like jamie yes we all would be the best players in town!!!!!!!

I will play cheap on friday, so I can get comfortable on the tables.I've realized it's not wise for me to bet high when I work all day.On top of the car ride my back will need some rest before I do anything too serious.I'm sure I'll see you there sometime this weekend:)

question?

Is there an outback steakhouse near the pool room? I get the funny feeling I'll be drowning my sorrows in an order of cheese fries!

Sloooowwww Dowwwwn Dawg.

Gdog was pool before pool in iowa was cool and Gdog is cool in the pool.

Get to know gdog to understand where he's coming from before attempting to guide gdog in his proper lane. Gdog just wants everyone to get along, hold hands, and sing kumbaya. which there isn't anything wrong with that! :canoodle:

I think Gary is actually a pretty good judge on the playing ability of people. I agree with him that we have no pros in the making. It's not that some of us don't have the drive to improve. It's that we are missing that upper level of skill in town(with exception of Don). Without that level of player, it is very difficult to improve past a certian point.

To get better you need to play with people better than you, so if anyone in town wants to become a pro, move away and good luck.
