Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Knowing Jason like i do. There is a good chance he loses between $500 and $2000 and quits. Or goes on a terror and busts them and they beg for gas money to get back to AZ.

But either way i dont think a spot is in the future either.
What guys from Arizona are up there playing?

They are funny guys. They are trying to dictate what games will be played. And what the games will be played for. Yet they seem mad people are not jumping up and down to play them.

They have had a couple offers to play some $100-$200 sets on the bar table( 8-9-10 ) ball. They said we dont play on the bar table. Finally bobby played jody 2 sets on the bar table ($50) and lost them, then he got jody on the 9ft and ran over him.

Bobby Emmons? Tall skinny kid?

I know both of them if that is who they are.

They said they're from Phoenix and play there most of the time. Apparently they like the gold crowns more cuz theres supposedly 1 diamond in town there which i find hard to believe. They are funny as hell. I saw Bobby win that King of the Hill tournament for AZ 10's but then I hear Mary Rakin robbed him bad playin on the big table and he was only giving up the last 2. Who knows they both get a little play, only problem is they arent willing to lose a little to figure out the right games.

Kolby's finally got a Diamond table about two or three weeks ago. All the other tables in Kolby's are Gold Crowns. Other then that the ONLY place in town is Sweet Tooths which is on the other side of the city. Kolby's is in Tempe (where they play) and Sweet Tooth's is in Glendale and if traffic is right it could take an hour to get there. I wish you guys all the luck in the world. Both of them play pretty well but neither of them are my favorite people to be around.

Well we tried to trap them and had Gus stuck about $500 and he dug himself out the hole and pulled up. Next day I see him he's tellin me about he knows we tried to trap him and blah blah blah. I dont wanna see them win at all. They make for good entertainment though.

Jeff, thats kind of funny and sad at the same time.

That dude one night was in there and Jon's girlfriend tried to hand him a empty bottle to toss in the garbage can(right behind him). He said no ! ! Where i came from growing up it was common curtesy to be nice to the ladies.

So i ask him if hes single and he says, "whats the supposed to mean" "you got some kind of problem with me?"

I said, "no, gay guys dont really bother me."

And i walked away and played pool. Thankfully i get along with Jon pretty well. And that security guy knows not to F@&* with me. Hes just on a ego trip.

Thanks for the addtional info and support....I may need it sometime...if and when I return. You might let Jon know what's up...I don't want the hall to lose business.

Is that gy there all the time now?...and why? Have there been fights lately or what? I can't see him being able to break up anything serious.

PS Mickey deserves a big-time commission, imho.

Ok, now I have three cues on order, one from Leon Sly, one from a raffle that was broke and is now getting repaired, and a cheap one from the Philippines through ebay lol. Its a race to see which one gets here first!

Jeff L, here are a few stories from this past week I've seen.

Some 'security' guy from Big Dogs went up to Tom K.(guy on my pool team) and asked him for his I.D. Monday night. Tom being the gentleman that he is replied, "Thanks, I just turned 40." Tom then showed him his I.D. and the guy barely even looked at it and said,"I am not checking your age, I was just told to make sure everyone has their I.D."

Last Friday night, a different 'security' guy came up to me after I'd been in the place for a hour or so(he'd even seen me in there earlier) and said,"Hey, I need to see your I.D." I told him that I'd been in the place for over an hour and what difference does it make now?" mind you, I'd been drinking, and continued to have an 'small' attitude w/ the 'security' guy. I eventually told him that it was behind the bar because I'd rented a table. I made a snide comment and walked off.(prolly more me being an ass, but I kinda felt like he wanted to "do something" to me if I wasn't gonna show him. Even though I felt he was being out of line in his manner in the way he was dealing w/ the situation, I was calm the whole time.

So, my guess is that Jon B. has told his 'security' guys to make sure everyone has their I.D.'s, young or old, gray hair or bald, man or woman. Whether he got in trouble or just doing it to make sure he doesn't get in trouble, doesn't give the right for these knuckle heads to get all puffy.

I wouldn't sweat it. I've seen the same thing many times in different bars where the 'security guys' are always trying to throw their weight(or lack there of) around unnecessarily.

If it's still bothering you, just talk w/ Jon B.

Thanks.

It's sad.

What's really bothering me is the attitude he showed and that is fast becoming prevelant throughout society. His problem was obviously that I was talking about him to Chang, not anything to do with an ID. That's the reason he confronted me and tried to intimidate me and RAN OFF A PAYING CUSTOMER. Why Jon would pay for and put up with this kind of anti-business behavior, I don't know. It's his hall.

His next problem was he interrupted a player playing, a big no no for anyone working in a pool hall. Hell, I remember out at BJs, Brad made sure the dancers never bothered a player--especially when we were gambling.

I say fire the troublemaker and give his salary to Mikey. That would make more business sense, imho.
