Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Bet you the Indian turns into a wolf and the Vampire comes back to her. I love me some good twilight. Maybe the female posters will start chiming in. I kinda wish I was going to the midnight showing, but I'm getting to old for that kinda foolishness that doesn't revolve around a ring or some sort of lightsaber.

Back to the thread: Gary -- Pool school? Couldn't find one closer than OK?

Hurry up with your stalk fixin', I've been cussin' your boys ALL FALL!

well i have, i get schooled every Sunday but i just don't get that warm personal interaction.

Hey I think you guys should go play at Fargo Billiards. Their Diamonds play perfect in every way. They even have Gabriel 7ft tables. I know it's a drive, but that's where you will find perfect tables. I don't think there is a perfect table in the state of Iowa!

Well yeah he turns into a wolf...the wolves are in the previews. He grows up too and looks like the girl gets involved in a love triangle. Good movie...Star Trek is out today as well on video...that's going in the Blu-Ray as soon as I get to Best Buy.

Pioneer is crazy, you know about these farm boys better than I do, they're just doing what they are told. If only someone knew what to tell them though!

Gary thought you knew, you gotta either sling rock or have a wicked jump shot to make it...come on now!

No one wants to get spoiled and then have to flash back to reality JB. I hope his pool room catches on and somehow it gets big enough to franchise. If his pool room doesnt make it, I think it's official pool won't make it. That's the barometer for pool rooms in our country. I saw it on the stream this past weekend and that's just the nicest set up, looked like there was a lounge or some non pool playing area in there too with couches like a rest spot or something. Sick room.

After playin there, it will be hard to play on equipment that isn't quite up to par! Sounds like Justin is up for a road trip, how bout anyone else? If you play up there on perfect tables, with perfect balls, and awesome service, there won't be any room for blaming losing on the equipment or anything else but yourself.

Wouldn't it be nice for a change to play people without them blaming losing on the equipment?!

Mikey, I told him this weekend that if he ever decided to franchise that place, that he should come to the "west side" of Des Moines. Pool players here would be in shock at a pool room with the best of everything. Maybe one day, who knows.

There are major advantages to the West Side...I think the people on that side would appreciate it a bit more. Des Moines isnt a big place but its amazing depending which direction you get on the interstate, the types of folks you run into. When you wanna have a good night hard to beat the west side. I got a lot of little hangouts nowadays. Big Dogs still can be quite entertaining though.

You still playing 1 pocket, or are you undercover practicing that game? hahaha

I'd play in Fargo. We might be betting enough money to almost make it worth it :)

Jason C. wouldn't be able to make the trip though. So that kind of makes it a no go for us.

Anyone else been to Big Shots yet? If you don't know its off of University in WDM. I thought it was nice and everything was shiny and new, but I thought it was odd how the pool tables were set up with very few tables and chairs nearby. It would have been cool if they put Diamonds in there and not just a bunch of the electronic valley tables.

Me, play one pocket, never really. I would rather play 8, 9, or 10 ball, as you well know.

I really think the west side would be a great place for a good room. I know what you are saying about the people on the west side vs the east side. Seems like they are more respectful towards people and businesses. They would love a place like Fargo Billiards, not trash it, like they do on the east side. I know it's expensive on the west side, but it would be worth it for many different reasons. Some people are too tight to put in the money needed to make a pool room what it should be. I have a list of requirements needed to make the perfect room, and none of the places in Des Moines have any of them.

You have to spend money in order to make money, even in the pool room business!

It was a joke, I never heard him curse at a pool table more than while he was playing 1 hole...it was funny stuff.
I don't think there is a game that is more frustrating at times than one pocket:) It's still fun to play every 6 months or so though. I would love it if more people played straight pool in town. I do love that game!!

What's up Jason? How did my team do after I took off last night?

Big Shots is a sports bar not pool hall. They did the right thing putting in the tables they did. They are trying to attract people to come have drinks, throw darts, shuffle board, and shoot some pool while checking out any and all sports on all the channels. Hell they even cut on Pool whenever its on TV or if you tell them it's on they will cut it on for you to watch. Normal people spend money and hang out, pool players are pretty cheap in general and don't add to the atmosphere and make it somewhere people wanna spend a laid back night. That guy knows what hes doing for sure.

Those guys in Minnesota have straight pool league...that would be fun I think. I'd get my butt kicked weekly at it though. Might even get some of the old timers playing more, that actually know all the moves with that game.

Hey Mike, We ended up losing 3 to 2 with the forfeit. Not too happy about it, but we should still be in the top 4 for the devision. I wish I would have known you guys were forfeiting I would have played myself, but I'm not even sure that would have helped with the way I was playing last night.

You going to be at Big Dogs tonight? I might stop down for a bit until I have to pick my girl up from work at 10.

Wait why did you guys have to forfeit? We didn't have a 5th girl there did we? Maybe she showed up after I left. I need details how that went down.

No BD for me tonite, I got some movies to watch plus I gotta sleep good for the long thursday I got planned.

A straight pool league would be great! I wonder how many people would play? There is a great system that would make it fair for everyone. It would allow the lower skilled players to have a chance at winning. It would be fun!

As to what you said about Big Shots, the guy has the right idea. What Fargo Billiards has done is make it big enough so the pool addict, the casual player, the sports nut, and the dinner crowd, can all hang out together. It's big enough for everyone. If you don't want to be around people, there are private rooms for rent as well. I'm tellin ya, it's got everything!! Des Moines could support a place like that I think.

No I'm disappointed that our second point was a result of your team forfeiting the last match.

I would def play on a straight pool league if someone set one up. I've never played anyone before just messed around playing it by myself so the handicaps would be great. Has anyone ever had straight pool tournament around here?
