Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Isn't everybody off 15 days around the holidays??

some people are off for about 115 days(give or take a week) during the holidays!

We went 5-0 in league. I lost 2 and tom lost 1. Brian and Geoff seem to be running out from everywhere! Matt just keeps on truckin!

Matt's opponent last night said "Hey Matt, I know the only way you can make the 8 is with ball in hand AND I need to bump the 8 so you can have a clear window. I know I only need 2 more balls for the round so instead of making the 2 ducks out in the open, how about I try a safe but instead I break them out for you and not get a rail and give you ball in hand so you guys can beat us 5-0". well at least thats what I thought she said!!!!

Oh boy, i can even tell you who this is.

"Tis the season of giving boys. You should learn to be as generous!

edit: I had the game in hand, biffed it. and yes, got a much appreciated repreive.

The 1 pkt match was good. Stephanie actually said 1 pkt is the best game she's seen played, how funny is that? I personally thought she said it because she likes the good bank shots and kick shots.

I almost feel like Jason and Mikey can't win on each others break. How's this for an odd fact, or maybe only odd to me, but last night Mikey and Jason had a game a piece where they broke and ran 6 balls or 8 balls, basically getting to where there opponent needed them all and they both lost that game. Jason ran all 9 when Mikey missed and Mikey got his 7 balls within 3 shots. I thought that was weird maybe no one else will.

One pocket played well is a game that can be very entertaining. I wish I coulda watched those two play.

Maybe it's because, played well, one pocket displays an array of shots. Some even being 'spectacular'. Defense, offense, strategy -- all are displayed.

Where as, 9-ball played well can literally put you to sleep.

FWIW

Sometimes I like it when people go for their hole playing one pocket. I hate 30 minute games but also don't like 5 minute games. I'd still vote for 10 ball as my favorite game.

I'd have to agree w/ 10 ball being my favorite game as a spectator.

8 ball-2nd favorite to watch as strategy is just as important as precise shot making
9 ball-good players make it look too easy, bad players make it look uh bad
1 pocket- well, uh, ZZZzzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzZZZZ I doubt I ever convert to liking this game!(alot of it is because its played on the big slate!)

1pkt is like chess. sometimes people make mistakes and its easy to win. sometimes you have to spend along time and make strategic moves.

I agree! That is what I like about it. You are constantly trying to out think your opponent. Its a mental workout....

There's a rule they use in some tournaments to speed up play that I can't quite remember but it has something to do with 1 ball must be above the headstring at all times. It's something to avoid the games where you get 13 balls down table, which happened at least twice last night and they were painful games.

I can see why they would do it to speed it up, but that completely changes the game and strategy. I don't even play that game and I want to get the balls at the other end of the table in the few times I have played. Me likey the whole strategy thing.

Isn't the one ball above the head string to keep you from just punting the CB down to the other end of the table when the balls are still rather tight to the stack?

13 balls downtable does change the game, but that's the nature of the game. Getting a break out ball and smacking the stack to spread them wide changes the game too.

It's no more then 4 balls can be in the kitchen. If more than 4, one gets spotted.

I like one pocket cuz it's so easy to rig a table.

Just kidding! Whoops, I didn't know that leg was short! Goodness!
