Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Farley & Richardson

Mike should look up PARANOIA. Noone cares nearly as much about him as he'd like to think.

But i'll tell you what maybe the owners need to have a talk with him about bringing concealed weapons into their business.

Just my opinion. And we know what those are like don't we ?

I have absolutely had enough and this is your final warning from me personally before I take the next step legally. Your comment about my husband carrying a concealed weapon has gone too far, my family's safety comes first and I will NOT tolerate it any longer. You two are perpetuating the lovely legacy left on this thread by your 3rd musketeer and apparently don't understand the concept of motherly instincts. By repeating previous allegations you are inciting violent behavior towards us~ we have already been threatened, and all of this is being documented. Don't even jump on your fragile soap boxes and repeat how no one has been hurt or how your freedom of speech is being violated because this excuse is pathetic and juvenile.

Congrats on creating this piece of shit thread Farley, if this is your legacy and are proud of what you've accomplished then go ahead and get it published. Maybe some day you will actually get a taste of the medicine that will most likely go along with it.

My husband and I have known most of you posters on her for quite some time now and I'm absolutely disgusted with the way that you are all even allowing this garbage to be an active part of your day, and for those of you who don't like us, that's ok, but actively defaming a family for the sheer entertainment value is cheap and unacceptable. I guarantee that if the shoe was on the other foot none of you would have shown the restraint that I have.

I don't blame anyone for not wanting to disclose their identity~ you people descend on them like vultures and try to dismantle their credibility. It actually resembles third world guerrilla warfare tactics and only extends the belief of the folks from out of town that we are all a bunch of low class idiots. You guys just love to see people squirm and suffer by encouraging others to join in and "get dirty". Well I've had enough of this bull shit and will do everything in my power to put an end to it NOW.

Mr. Wilson~ you were correct the first time when you closed this forum and hopefully you will see that they don't really want to discuss anything relevant to the original topic. This witch hunt needs to come to an end immediately.

I am not one to get in the middle of the "concealed weapon" posts as I don't know the whole story on that, and do not want to post about it here as I do not have facts and do not want to assume anything. It is definitely none of my business...but I have been trying to discuss the tournament we had with moving forward to the next one... Lets stop flinging mud and talk about POOL....I would like to keep this thread open.

There is no witch hunt or conspiracy against yourself or Mike. Big Dog has been asked not to post in the thread and has abided by that. Let's not incite him and if you guys want to hash it out do it somewhere else please. I do care about this thread, I know Mike thinks that I am a retard for that but I do have a level of ownership in it. I am not condoning others actions nor am I making any threats or telling lies anywhere.

If we all stop saying the "M" word than we can move on and talk about more important things. I talked to Mike for probably 3 hours today, an hour of which you were right there, I will repeat myself...

I am well aware of the fact that I have no friends in town and am not passed much more than an "associate" type of relationship with some people. I also feel people have not had my back in certain situations and I am not going to take fire for them when the tables are turned. I do realize that one day the tables could be turned on me and I can be thrown under the bus and I'll have no one to turn to as was pointed out to me. I am not the cause of the problem and I also am not working to be a part of the solution.

I'd like to move on and talk about other things, any legal case against me would be a big stretch and I really hope it doesn't ever come to that. Hopefully one day Mike and I can reach friend status again...you guys have lived here for a long time, imagine how all this stuff makes me feel when I am in a place where I have no roots and ultimately no one besides my girl to turn to anyway.

LET"S ALL MOVE ON!!!

So does this mean your "concealed weapon" post was a farse?

Don't go there Jason, this thread might not make it til sunrise. In unrelated news how's your SPT shaft playing, you still liking it?

I am not one to get in the middle of the "concealed weapon" posts as I don't know the whole story on that, and do not want to post about it here as I do not have facts and do not want to assume anything. Yeah we have been talking about pool and that's where this conversation needs to stay...ABOUT POOL.

Good for you Mr Wilson. :)

Bye bye Complex13, I'm probably friends with you in real life and sad to see you go over a joke. At least I think you were joking.

P.S. We are all on very thin ice and Mr. Wilson has to regulate the best he sees. Let's keep it clean or post in a different thread. As much as I like to be vocal sometimes we gotta show a lil restraint.

Whos playing summer league ? I don't personally, would rather go swimming.

I think we have both our APA teams qualified for master, hope we do well.

I hope my Tuesday team does Double Jeopardy because I really want to play 9-Ball at my last known handicap!!!!!

Whos playing summer league ?

I plan on playing 9ball league on monday's. Thats if Rene gets enough teams. If not, we will play the 8ball monday league. Just something to get out of the house one night a week.

SOOOOOOO..... My thoughts on things that have transpired over the last few days.

JB, needs to work on his internet people skills. They are HORRIBLE! 98% of the negative things he types, I doubt he would ever say to someones face. For you Jon, let the hatred go. We get it, You don't like a few people. Use that energy for something positive.

Mikey F., good job on the calcutta. Great job of donating your own money trying to build up the pot. I agree that 1 or 2 Pick of the litter's would have decreased the overall pot. I do think that everyone should have had to buy themselves for a minimum, no bid pool.

Randy H., Hate to say this as I am sure you already know but being here only every OTHER weekend is not great for business. Especially one that requires interaction with your patrons that frequent the place more often than not. There's a few reasons our team plays out of Smokeys. 1) We always get service. 2)The owner interacts with everyone and knows 95% by name. 3) We always get service. Did I mention that there is alway someone there that is asking us if we need anything? I understand it is tough living out of town and finding the right someone to run the place is tough but for a nominal fee I will be that guy!

The tournament was ran decently for a first time.
People playing the same opponent twice in a tournament isn't that big of a deal. You went through a 64 person bracket before you maybe accidentally met the same person. Take it as a revenge match? In big tournaments don't the final 16 get reshuffled too including the one loss people?

Only time I personally saw a hicup was when Jody went to play his match and then Rob went to play his match and Paul wasn't around, I was standing there looking at the board and had 4-5 people walk up and ask me several questions about the brackets. I answered them and then people started to come up and tell ME who won/lost. So I fit in and helped out and assigned tables, found opponents, even skipping my own match until it was the last one that was left and there was only one open table. (WHERE'S MY COMPENSATION!?!?!?! just kidding, I like to help)

Next I know, the ordeal with the handicap came up with Brian Thompson and his opponent. I disagreed with the desicion that Jody and who ever else made to move him up MID match(let alone mid match DOWN 3-0!) Do I think he was a B? No. even asked him on the stream and he dodged the question but finally said" No, but thats not the point"
The shenanigans that happened afterward were uncalled for. I don't know the details but according to him, Brian threatened his life. I'm not sure if he provoked Brian or what was said but IMO that was a bit much.

As far as the other handicap issues, people are always going to complain especially pool players. It's second nature to them! As far as Randy wanting people moved up that he played, I am sure while playing someone, you would have the best judge of a persons ability. I don't know if what he witnessed was well merited or not. Just saying.(BTW I went 2 n out in that tournament. So am I a "D" or an "E" next time?)

Mike "alleggedly" carrying a concealed weapon? seriously? Even if he did, I would assume he has a concealed permit? And if he did, whats the big deal? TBO, if he did,I would be curious as to why he would need to carry but if he didn't tell me, I wouldn't feel offended.

Jenni, I understand the motherly instinct has set in and you are protecting and standing up for your family but the less you say, the better off you will be.

Gary, you sir, are one well rounded individual!

Jason R., you make me think sometimes. I hate thinking!

Spina, get your hand fixed, get your new cue, and get with your backer so you can give me the 7 out and the breaks so I can steal from you! Stop dodging me! j/k

Annonymous posters, pm me and tell me who you are and I will give you some cookies! I won't tell, I promise!

Btw, for those of you that don't know me..... I'M THAT "ME" GUY!

Good post in the right direction. I like the "nominal fee" part. You do bring up a good point though, I never really thought about it but if Randy or whomever of their group was here more often and got out from behind the bar it might be better for business. I don't know but its worth a try. Maybe it has been done, I do remember a year ago when either Marc O. or Randy was here quite a bit but the customer interaction wasn't there.

....................................................................................................

Wow, where do I start?...lol

First and fore most this is Brian Thompson (imtheone13@msn.com), I certainly don't want to be accused of not giving my name. :-)

Ok, here we go. Yes Jon Brown has a tendency to get carried away on his posts. Anyone who has ever logged into this site is well aware of that. We all know that there is an incredible amount of tension between him and Mike Athens. I for one, would like to see it just get squashed! All things considered, there are a lot more things in life to get worked up over! Let it go!

Not to pick on Jon Brown, but yes I do whole heartedly agree that Jon should have never been alowed to play as an open player on the winning team in Davenport! Especially when every open player in Des Moines, myself included, would not dare to play him even, for any sort of money that could be considered worthy of playing! That being said, would I have put him on my team as an open, probably! I'm calling everyone to the carpet including myself!

This, brings us to one of the original reasons the "I hate Athens bandwagon" has recently got launched once again. Reason being, several (if not most) people agree that he made a judgement call in Davenport that was self serving. Really? I also think that putting JB on any team as an open team is equally self serving! Once again, not saying I wouldn't have done it, as I do not want to even remotely absolve myself from doing the exact same thing! However, I also would not act completely dumb founded when called to the carpet on it. :-)

Mikey, at first I was a little put off by the lack of blind picks, as I've never participated in a calcutta that didn't offer them. To my surprise, it actually worked out well and I do think that you managed to get more in the calcutta than would have been raised otherwise! Great Job!

I also feel a little guilty, as far as your self assesed status is concerned. I do consider you a friend. However I have not really gone out of my way to convince you of so. For those of you asking, should one really go out of their way, sure they should, when that person is a new comer to a town who virtually knew no one and has been fighting his way in from day one. Once again, I apologize and would love to go just hit some balls for fun some time.

As far as Randy is concerned, I was out before he made any decisions involving anyones handicap. That being said, Randy is a pretty good guy. Do I feel that the one of the owners should be there more, well..... This isn't exactly what Randy signed up for. There were supposed to be basically 4 partners, 3 basically silent and one hands on. A tragic motorcycle accident changed all that! Now Randy and/or Marc have to leave their families and other businesses to drive several hours to check on things here. Does it suck, yep! But he's willing to do it and I give him credit for that!

As far as the bracket goes, everyone agrees that there should have been a 128 man bracket there and I'm sure there will be one next time. I do not, nor will I ever think that Jody would do anything dishonest to rig the brackets. It's just not in his nature! He will play on the same table continuously at Beach Girls because "it's closer to the bracket board" ...lol but even when that was called into question he stopped. Jody and rob for, that matter are about as honest as they come.

Now to address me and my behavior, let me start by saying "YES" I did over react. However let me just correct the situation. My oppenent was listed as a "C" player, not a "B" and he was moved up to a "B" when it was 3-3. (he was already on the watch list from the previous match) He made a comment to me about my play and I countered back. It was 4-4 and it was his break when I went and offered my hand and apologized for any altercations, at which point he put his hand out and pulled it back about 4 inches from contact and snickered good luck. Was I upset, absolutely! Please take into consideration that had I have come to Kansas, Illinois, Minnesota or any other major tournament and snuck in as the worse ranking in the building and got caught doing so, I would absolutely expect to face the much deserved wrath of the locals. Does that excuse my actions? No, and for that I apologize to all involved!!!

As far as Mike carrying a concealed weapon is concerned, that's seems kind of silly! I'm not saying it is completely false as I have no proof, one way or the other. I'm just saying, Mike and I have had our agreements and disagreements over the years and I far more see him avoiding conflict as apposed to inviting it! Letting word get out that he was carrying a concealed weapon would only invite trouble and I don't see that as Mike's nature at all...... Btw, Mike if anyone literally threatens you with physical harm over an incident that took place nearly a month ago, their ignorance will speak louder than their actions! I know you and Whitey and a few others had words at the time and no long term friendships were forged over it, but if they hold on to it this long and still want to do something about it, thats stupid and I've got your back!!!!

Jenni, I ABSOLUTELY applaud you getting fed up and getting sick of the b.s. Anyone who knows you, would expect no different! Unlike others, who probably look at this as you standing up for Mike, I on the other hand, look at it as you being you! Mike is intreverted and more likely to to let things roll off his back. You on the other hand, are very opinionated and would rather face controversy as opposed to avoiding it! There is nothing wrong with either style. They are just different in there nature!

Gary, I too enjoy your comments and balancing words of wisdom! You have an incredible knack of keeping one foot in each world, all the while maintaing an awesome "Switzerland/Neutral" side to the subjects that allow you to get in and throw a few much needed jabs and get out unscathed. Brilliant as always and i would expect no less. Keep it up, as your posts are generally right on target!!!

Jason, I think that for the most part, you really do go out of the way to keep the peace! I also think you have a tendency to take things a little too personal as far as the anonymous posts go. Let it go brother. I've got enough known things to battle in life, let alone start battling the unknown! :-) You are a very genuine person with a huge heart! I'm glad I've gotten to know you a little better over the past couple of years.

Spina, well there's not much I can say about you except, you're Spina and anyone who has anything negative to say about you, has to be mistaken! :-)

Well, I guess I'm done making friends for the evening/morning :-) I welcome any comments, both good and bad! Because I, like so many others have really started to lose my enjoyment for the game. A game in which I once loved and I am going to try and work to get it back. Sweet dreams! :-)

Sweet Dreams? More like GOOD MORNING!!!!

Wow....couldn't sleep huh? I don't post on here much, other than to add a little dry humor here and there, but I read EVERYTHING!! I have never had ill feelings for Mike or Jenni Athens. They have always treated me with respect. I honestly don't post because the drama is kind of rediculous. I have more important things to do with my life than worry about any of this crap. It is entertaining at times though. I think the whole concealment thing should be squashed! It's retarded!! I can't see any reason for it. If there is, I have your back also!

To everyone else on here, I feel all of the negative crap is tearing our pool community apart. I honestly think other people, from outside our community have started reading this thread just to laugh at us because it is pathetic. Competitive drama is great, but the other stuff is getting old.

If any of you ever need anything from me, I will always be there for you. I consider you all friends, until you give me reason not to. I'm not only talking pool related stuff either.

If anyone wants to talk to me, feel free.

P.S. Brad I know deep down inside you really want to be the "YOU" guy...

Thanks Brian. I think in the near future we are going to all try to hookup and just play, try to get as many people there as possible and just play for hours. That's what it's all about. All this stuff just promotes awkwardness and makes people on edge. Furthermore all of us on edge is not a positive thing for any of us. I already had one stint where I didn't play any for over a month because I was stepping back. The best it was in a long time around here was prior to Cedar Rapids up until the start of Davenport. While folks were gearing up for the tournaments people were in there playing 4 or 5 times a week and not trying to 'bust' each other and that led to some good play in the State Tournaments.

I hope and pray a situation never NEVER NEVER comes up that involves physical violence in our pool room for any reason. Yes sometimes people get drunk and things happen but if it was based off of anything other than that its premeditated. With that said this is not Iraq and it will be a sad day when everyone is carrying their weapon of choice as a defense mechanism. Heckler & Koch (HK's) get to stay at home in case a burglar gets froggy.

I would really like to see some closure between people and some gentleman's agreements made and honored. I was talking to Jason Richardson for a few minutes last night and he in plain English let me know that sometimes he has no idea where I stand with him. I talked to Athens and we have some good and bad history between us and we see certain things differently and we both are confused a lot of the time about our status as friends. I have defended several people including Jody and others and in the moment it seems noble, then in 6 months I am a scumbag so in retrospect I feel dumb. All I am saying is that yes when I am done wrong and I want to talk about it, I do post it online sometimes. Sometimes I call people that I feel can relate to my situation. In vice versa if someone calls me or posts that is also in a situation that I can relate to I empathize with them. I'm not trying to light fuses and incite problems where there need not be any.

I always hated that proverb about if you are not part of the solution than you are part of the problem. What if you can't solve the problem like putting 1/3 in decimal form. Anyway there are not two factions going to war here, what I see is a lot of individuals who have their own brains and their own positions. Sometimes they line up and sometimes they don't. A good example is I was clearly cheering for Athens team at State and wanted them to win and was even going to bet they didn't get double dipped. For some odd reason Richardson, Chance, Jamie, JB, and Justin did not hold that against me. Keep in mind I was rooting for a team that I USED to be on and was a part of. If that doesn't say enough about who I am I don't know what will.

Have a bunch of authors around here.

Having lunch with the Athens family today at 1.

Also my anniversary today. 4 years, been with her for almost 11. :)

I can't help but write a thousand letters or more right now. I'd be a screen writer if my high school teachers would have known about this forum!!! No seriously it's like you start to type one thing, then you remember a comment and you got to respond, then another and at the end it doesn't even make sense, this is freestyle posting.

Congrats to you and Tammy you've been together longer than I've had a license:eek:
