Update on the Des Moines pool scene

I think being able to pack the house with out-of-towners and league players spending money would look good from a business plan stand point.

Yeah I agree, it's just not even close from what I am told on the amount of money each thing brings in. One is a guaranteed score! The other is lucky to break even. You have to channel your inner pool nut to want to throw the big tourneys. Also I liked that idea of having a tourney with a challenge match going that people want to see. Baraks and Bartrum immediately comes to mind...do it in our house please!!! I'm taking Bartrum if that goes down by the way.

League vs big player tournament -- you can shear the sheep many times, but fleece them only once!

Of course league players are going to pad the coffers. They are 'recreating'. big player tournament - more or less are there to make some money. Or in my case - donate nobley.

It's not surprising big tournaments only break even, but with how they are run, advertised, etc -- it's not surprising it was a local only with Jesse coming over for several months walking around money -- especially since he was most likely heading to White Diamond. How long has White Diamond been on the radar?? A while, I'm guessing. same weekend every year... yada yada.

I'm with Bruce -- it'll be as big as you want it to be. Oh well. If there woudl have been more notice, I probably moved around my schedule to play, but as it was.... i'm a nobody, but how many others like me would have 'donated' with good advertising??

Que sera sera.

Chris Miller at White Diamonds is a straight up pool nut, I met him in Vegas when he won the 2008 APA national championships in 8 ball for skill level 7's. He set the party off almost every night i was there and this guy damn near buys the bar lemme tell u, cool cat but biggest pool nut in the world. He makes that tourney go, he probably invests 3 or 4k in the calcutta alone, he pumps up almost everyone even if it is him buying.

Dan Tull at Shooters in Olathe, pool nut extraordanaire...his tourney is almost a must attend. Pays a Tourney Director, people to stream, and keeps the place well staffed and make no mistake those waitresses are hustling straight up. They will keep a beverage in your hand and make sure you get ur food while it is hot...great place.

Beloit tourneys Dave Coles is a pool nut...

I think you see where I am going. At some point you got to weight business versus your inner pool nut. The bottom line keeps the lights on though make no mistake about that. I think it depends on the room and how well business is doing.

We can do our part by going to the pool hall once or twice a week and donkeying off like $40 in the place...maybe that would make a big tourney more feasible. If I was super rich I would do it like they do in Alabama and have a monthly $5k guaranteed tourney how strong is that!

Thread died, who's hittin Olathe? Anyone wanting to hit up a game night on Saturday with a partner holla at me. a few of us are getting together making grub and mixed drinks playing different games. Probably no action but guaranteed lots of fun.

Tony E. staking Dan Kuhl against Pet tonight? Come sweat bet on it should be a tight match. I'll bet on the side also.

Are you staking Pet or is he putting up his own?

No not staking him at all I wouldn't do that again. I'm guessing he has his own money to play. I'd assume he's getting staked though since the bet went up 5x between texts while league was going on last night.

You want a sweat bet Spimp juice? I still got that sweet $50 of yours haha!

What's the line on the game lol? Spot and race? Don't gloat too much on that $50, the Hawks stumbled on their own d*ck and it happens. I did payoff right away though, I be good action :).

For sure, they're gonna stumble again this week too and my cowboys will finally win again regardless of Romo...the Vikings are going to struggle with a hurt favre. Saints and Pittsburgh will be the nuts this week. Can't wait for the Colts to smash on the Texans and hopefully Green Bay finds a way to lose.

You do be good action son son.

Pet and Dan playing heads up I think 9-Ball. Don't know if they are playing on the big table or bar table either way I think I like the short white kid to win this one. I think they're betting like $500 or a $1000 something in that range I think. Gambling is fun.

As long as Arian Foster rushes for about 175 and 3 scores, and Peyton hooks up with Reggie Wayne for at least 2 TDs if not more I will be happy on my fantasy team. Vikings go to New England...yikes. I hate to say it but T Jack is looking better and better after the performance at Green Bay with about 3 picks in 7 passes at one point.

Tough call on who to bet on that one, possibly better to keep the money in my wallet on this one. I am not sure who I like, haven't seen Dan in action outside of a tournament. Let me know how it turns out if you go watch it.

I'll be there, gotta make some PJ aka Purple Jesus for tomorrow though so I won't have too long of a night unless I get smashed in the ten ball and trap myself up.

What were the sets? 10 ahead?

Bowman wins Olathe again -- no much surprises.

Yes ten ahead 8 ball and 10 ahead 9 ball. If Phil can get staked he wants to give Dan the 8 ball in some 9 ball on the bar table. I think Dan can make a game with pretty much anyone that's fair. He certainly isn't scared to play for the money.

Justin when are you wanting to play him some one hole. $50-$100/game minimum. Let me know and we can set it up.

Why is phil going to spot Dan ? I don't think he can beat Pet even these days.
