Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Sure I have. I just haven't quite learned to trust my own eyes again from when I got "confused" out of a hundred on 3 card monte last weekend. So it helps to clarify. ;)

It wasn't to a slick guy from Omaha that starts with an L was it?

Yep, I've seen him in action multiple times and have seen him rob enough people and kicked out of places before. He plays a little bit of pool as well but something about bending the card and having it switch to a different card is pretty slick.

The only thing about Lee, is that even when you win, you lose. He's the best entertainment I have every had with someone else's money. I still think Brad and Brian are still argueing...

Carry on...

WTFO -- ROTFLMFAO - I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.

My apologies Mike. I forgot today is sarcastic Wednesday. Let me change the words "Big Dogs" to "ANYWHERE"...there is that better? Last time I checked, you have gambled a lot more than I have in Big Dogs and have played in slightly more tournaments than I have. Need I go on, because I can if need be.... Let me ask you or anyone this about the big table...who sees me play on a big table anywhere for gamble or practice? And no I don't have a big table at my house and can give you or anyone directions to stop by if they don't believe me. Ding fries are done.

Your missing the point. Just because I haven't been in the pool hall, do you think other players think that I play worse than I did before? They aren't going to adjust based solely on not seeing me.

Mike, I know what you are saying and I think you are missing my side of the point. People that know me can vouch for how I played some years back vs now. Several of these people grew up with me and know this for a fact. I am not saying there is a huge decline, but the decline is there. As for the 9 foot table I stand by my previous statement. I don't gamble or play on a big table. I have dinked around a bit of one pocket with Justin or Bruce, and maybe hit a few before one of the few tournaments I have been to.

Just because someone says to him that I have the edge and needs to be spotted doesn't necessarily make it true. Why should I adjust after playing 4 games and breaking even? He says alcohol was the only reason why we broke even, I don't know if I agree with that. Earlier Frost posted he after texts he likes his side if I recall so why do I need to bend? If I go and throttle someone I have always been willing to adjust if the spot is not right. Some people may not do the same with me and that is fine. I don't have to gamble with them. Rookie and I have never gambled, and I don't even know all the rules of the game hence having to call Jason to clarify one of them. I just thought it was a fun, different game to gamble a bit at. If he does not want to play no big deal, but there is no "adjust" as you posted as we played even and broke even.

Edit: It also sounds like he is going to bet a lot on Jamie and possibly other matches so he may not want to play on top of it. He can let me know through Frost or someone else that knows him.

Troy don't be one of the vultures man! You know you were laughing as you typed that, I'll rephrase for you.

"Tell Rook I will play him 6-4 for 30 a game on the big table or we can play full rack and he can play 9-6. You know, just for practice"

That's probably a little more fair. You bank better than all of us son.

Tell em I well try that full rack for 32.78 a game, just to learn how to play full rack, Im still in training.

I am looking forward to a great weekend of pool in Des Moines. Sounds like there are going to be some great players here. I wonder if there will be any gambling between some of the out of towners. There are a couple that might be making their first trip to Des Moines? Shuff? Raulston? Maybe Runningen and Engel's first Des Moines trip? Whether or not there is any gambling, I know there will be some great tournament matches.

I will be interested to see what the calcuttas get pumped up to. Frost, make sure to bring the stack you usually stuff in your socks as well :). I also hope there are some great gambling matches and a good turnout. Look forward to sweating some action Friday, possibly Saturday.

I know I mentioned this before but, I am also anxious to see how many local players come out and play in the tournaments. I understand that most won't play in the one pocket tournament, but the majority of the local players should be playing in the 9 ball tournament. That is what will make or break the event and determine whether they make this an annual or bi-annual tournament. How cool would it be to have an "Olathe" type tournament right here in our own backyard once or twice a year???

Randy mentioned to me on Monday that if this tournament is a success, he would be willing to run a tournament like this once or twice a year.

No, His nickmane is Turd-Dog. Dis be T-dog.
That is extremely hilarious! If you ever say that in person I will buy you a shot of your choice. You just gotta say "Dis be T-Dog"

For most of them def first trip. Beau has been a couple times and from what I hear some of those MN guys that used to come to my ring games are making a return too. Definitely going to be sweating tourney matches and I think there is a good chance that some big matches will happen. Beau gambles. Shuff and Bowman are bound to clash. Jason Chance and Jamie won't be able to stay out of the box. Dustin Gunia will be looking for something. Can't forget Whitey's coming either which is action. It won't be the fact there is action it's going to be the quality of play I look forward too and getting some sweats in where I can. I'll be disappointed to see too many DSM people picking this weekend to match up with each other like the other 51 weeks this year are off limits.

I think the calcutta will be phenomenol no matter who does it. I really do. Talent brings money, not the guy screaming in the front of the room bumping $20 players to $40 players. You need more $500 players to get the cash up quickly at the end of the day. This tourney might just get 8 or 9 $500 players and if that happens look for $6k in the 9 ball calcutta. The one pocket calcutta will be strong if it gets $2k in there IMO that's a lot for one pocket!
