Update on the Des Moines pool scene

No problems. Just find a league that you like and have them join the ISPA. You do know the ISPA does not care who your sponsoring League is. So long as they are based in Iowa.

Actually, I'm thinking that all of the Leagues in and around Des Moines will be joining the ISPA. A City the size of Des Moines should have more than one puny little League participating and now that this great event will be in your back yard...well, you figure it out.

That's what happened in the Quad Cities area. When we moved from Waterloo to Davenport, the membership from the Quad Cities exploded. Now we did lose some from Waterloo at that time and we'll undoubtedly lose some from Davenport with this move....but that's their problem. If they don't want to play in the biggest and best State Level Pool Tournament in the world, that's their loss. I'm sure we'll more than cover the loss from Des Moines participation just as we more than covered the Waterloo loss from the Quad Cities.

This is excellent news. A centrally located State Tourney, kudos to those who have made this possible. The possibilities are there for this to be huge.

Hey Ken there is one group of people participating in the ISPA Tourney west of I-35 that I can think of, the 2011 ISPA Open Team Champions:thumbup:

I must say -- I didn't think it would happen. I applaud the ISPA board for trying to make this tournament the best in the Nation -- if it wasn't already.

I smell 1 pocket tournament, green (Action) room, and more. The space will be phenominal.

So, can, for example, the City League or Ernie's Little Nipper league teams participate in the Iowa tourney? Players, TAP, etc. ,too?

I heard Big Dogs will have to close for a month or two while their getting moved over to their new place. Is has to do with getting the new building up to code. I hope everyone continues to support them when they reopen.I would hate to see D.M. without a real pool hall again.

Some info on when they will close and the expected date would be nice. Do you think they will provide that information? I think that will have a little to do with their support afterwards. Where is the new location again?

I'll answer that for you Jeff...since nobody from the ISPA ever reads this stuff.

Yes they can. There are some standards that need to be followed but as far as what other organization a League is associated with...the ISPA doesn't care. It is an IOWA Association for IOWA based Leagues.

Well...I just tried cutting and pasting the rules for New Leagues from the ISPA By-Laws but it didn't want to work very well. If you visit the ISPA web site (http://ispa.in2pool.com), you will find a link to the ISPA By-Laws. Look in Article IV for the info needed to become an ISPA Sanctioned League.

Hope this helps. Let me know...or ask your League Operator or maybe even someone who represents the ISPA...if you have further questions.

A 1 pocket tourney division would be great, 10 ball could happen, maybe artitstic pool? Adding the extra formats would lenghten the tournament a day or 2 but hey if its going to best in Iowa why not go all out.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I told our team last night about this development.

Trucker Rob wants to come back to Des Moines to play. Last time he lost playing one pocket to Jamie Fenton but beat him playing bar table 9 ball. Jason Chance says he's going to the Outer Banks. He told me he was coming through maybe on the 5th or 11th can't remember. If anyone wants to play him though I'll give him the contact info. He's got a big bank roll if that means anything and no one is barred.

Text or respond in the thread if anyone wants some action, he'd play anyone some pool for money. I can get the message to him from there.

That link got forwarded to me so I dont know unfortunately. Most likely some punk wannabes that though they were going to score big. They do have cameras but I dont know if they were able to see them or not.

Big Dogs got broken into...people never cease to amaze me.

WHich part?

  • Theives broke in?

  • The wall wasn't constructed to withstand cutting thru? (just studs and drywall)

  • They didn't take the expensive stuff, just easy money?

  • There were holes in the camera coverage?

I hope they catch em -- most likely not mensa candidates.

On another note - Smokies is a little different under new managment. Been there a couple times for summer league. Still evaluating...

Is Big Dog really moving?? Seems like few details, i would want to let all my customers know where and when to come continue giving me there money, but I'm strange like that.

Wish I could play your guy Mikey, but I'm sure he is out of my league. Hopefully someone will step in.

I have played twice since April ISPA -- felt wierd to have to find my cues before I went out a week ago. Not sure my final feelings on my imposed hiatus.

Big Dogs (or agent) posted on Facebook that there would be a big shin-dig this Thursday -- i.e. booze blow out -- everything must go.

Friday they start the move. There was no mention of ETA on when they would be up and running at new location on NE 14th Street.

The good news is that the Minx is right around the corner...:welcome:

Anyone else been up there to check it out?

Ladies/karaoke night on Thursdays! Same as pool league. Who knew? And there are actually "ladies"that came! They have a dj and he seems to have an issue with the volume knob. Either that or he is deaf.
New owner seems to have a decent following. He still has a problem stocking Captain Morgan......

They remodeled the inside and made the bar longer. Only 3 pool tables left and minimal seating near the tables. Decent for a 3 person/team league but would be "cozy" with any more. They have tournaments on Mondays Fridays and Saturdays. I doubt they get a decent turnout due to having only 3 tables.the owner did tell me that he would match the pot though.....

He took down the televisions. My guess is he will be upgrading they soon. HOPEFULLY! _

The chicken strips are the very good.

The tables still play crappy.
