I think that someone who is upset and has too much money woofs at you about a $2000 set to save face. If he offers and follows through, then you are probably being hustled. He probably offered the $2000 thinking you would counter offer a lesser bet. Shady in my opinion. Hope it works out. Realize that you are supposed to think he plays a little less than you and that he is an upset guy with too mcuh money if he is trying to hustle you.

Some people like to throw big numbers (in your case 2k) so that they can scare you off.
I'd say if you think you can afford it and its a fair match then go for it.

Intimidation tactic! He doesn't expect you to take the bet. Call his bluff. Bring some friends and plenty of "flash cash." It's gonna turn in to a woofing contest!

Is the $2000. a knee jerk reaction hoping you will back down? Can he afford it, or even more important does he have any track record of going off for that kind of money? Having money and a willingness to lose it are two different things. What has he done in the past?
You don't want to play just once, this guy could become a full time customer.
I would keep the bet at reasonable amount and grind the guy if I think I can beat him. I beat a guy for $40,000.00 playing like that over a 3 month time.
Bottom line, you need to know a little more about the guy to decide how is best to take him off. Then again, are you sure you can win? You would not be the first to get in over your head.
B and C players are not dependable, they don't always preform as expected or as they expect to. They can always be on the verge of going down the drain even with what should be a winning game.
If this is a close match, as I kind of think it probably is, money management will be important in winning.

I think there are more C players playing for 1k to 2k than A players.

Today is the day. I'm ready on my end. We will see if this goes off tonight.
My game plan is to just beat him. I'm not going to try to string him along for the most money or anything. His ego can do that for him. If I win the first race I'm not planning on giving him a good spot to get him to run it again either. I would do the same bet or a 1K race giving up the last 2 is it. No called balls for sure.

I beat him out of $200 the first week playing even. At the end of the night he asked what we should do next week. I told him I would give him the call 7. I wasn't looking for the nuts and wanted to gamble in a fair race. (The first night he was woofing about doing $200 dollar sets and locking up $800 at the start) I declined. We played the next week for $50 sets to 5 or $20 a game. Heads up I was winning. With the call 7 he was winning. We broke even. That's when he started woofing about the $2K. I really think it is his ego. I'll run $2k to find out.

Don't think about things that you don't want to happen. When I start doing that, they tend to start happening!

I would DEFINITELY make some sort of payoff stipulation if 7 isn't reached by closing time! As far as stalling... not much you can do except not let it get to you. I've had guys pull stall maneuvers and I just sit there and don't care. When they see it doesn't work, they quit stalling.
Just keep your confidence up, telling yourself you can do this! And don't give any thought to anything he does at the table. If he hits a couple shots real good, so what! Nut him up safe and grind on his confidence. When he woofs at you, laugh it off. His strategy is to get in your head and cause you to beat yourself. Typical non-playing woofer strategy. When he sees he can't get in your head, he'll fold up like a Chinese laundry mat! Let him in your head, though, and it will be a tough, tough battle to get him back outta there!
