UPS cannot be trusted with cues

I had 2 older collectable Meucci's (25+ years old) stolen by UPS employees out of the package tube, just want to alert everyone that UPS employees will steal them and send the package on empty to the receiver. Now UPS has dragged their feet and the trail has gone cold and I'm still waiting for the insurance refund on the package. Overall it has been a horrible experience, one that I will never repeat again. FedEX or USPS from now on for me.

Thievery sucks, and it especially sucks when you trust your shipper to leave your stuff alone and just do their jobs.
 
It's my theory that shipping cues around Christmas is risky because of how much temporary labor UPS brings in around the holidays.

Not only cues, but anything of value in distinctive packaging is at an increased risk of being stolen in transit this time of year.

USPS all day and you never have to worry about seasonal help. They don't bring in the scale that the other shippers do

And how do you know that it was stolen by UPS? I believe you but was curious how you determined this
 
When it happened to me the item was taken out and retaped. When delivered the person receiving the item knew the box was light so he refused the package and I got it back empty. Same time frame too, it was 2 weeks before Christmas last year.

The beauty of that is the weight was different than when scanned in. I had this happen with UPS once years ago and they just paid the insurance without even questioning it.

Same went with me, it was way faster than I expected and I was glad I paid extra for the insurance.

It was never touched by anybody but UPS employees. I dropped it off to UPS packaged and it weighed 5 LBS for 2 cues and 3 shafts. When it arrived to the destination it weighed less than 1 LB and the receiver immediately raised the alarm. Who else could have done it?
 
I only ship USPS insured with signature confirmation. I have never had a close call.

I do tend to over pack a cue so that it will arrive in the same condition as it left. How you pack a cue is as important as who you select for shipping. It is well worth the piece of mind, you can never be too careful.

I spent like $40 on packaging, an extra large tube with bubble wrap of all items. Taped up to the hilt and both ends sealed with package tape crisscrossed. The tube arrived in immaculate shape, but the tape had been cut with a razor blade on both ends and the cues had been pushed through one end and taken out. Cold blooded thievery.

I've sent and have had sent to me USPS snail mail that never showed up.
Now I only use USPS priority mail that is tracked and from what I gather the package is weighed at the post office on both ends of the trail<~ I'm going to ask my post office help desk about this.


I've heard horror story's about every shipping company known to man... The only company I give up on dealing with and taking the loss Is TNT shipping items from china; it's odds of showing up are the odds of red or black at the roulette wheel..you sure better hope the wheel hits green zeros!

I have cues shipped signature required fully insured and I open the package in front of the delivery person on my porch. They have to wait and watch...then I sign. If there's a major issue or something is missing I will refuse delivery.

Problem is a guy can send you a box of rocks and when you accept delivery you have already lost. Insurance won't cover this situation and it happens all the time for packages that aren't signature required.
 
I sold a car and mailed the title from SF to Seattle via USPS regular mail a couple months ago. Took 16 days to get there. Never again.
 
I have a friend who was a full time ups worker...and he told me before, that around xmas when they do all the temp. hiring ..they dont care...they throw packages and things get broke, smashed or missing all the time...he said its like a zoo at times...if i were shippung around holiday id make sure the cues are secure and in some hard shell protectant such as pvc and lots of bubble wrap...although it doesnt prevent theft..it may help if all they see is plastic tubing and still protect cue when its being tossed around
