I haven't got an exact date but a good guess would be that it's been around since the 1920's or 1930's. A local bar/mini pool hangout where Thursday night & Sunday tourneys have been a fixture for many years prior to my moving to this area eight years ago.
I've enjoyed playing in quite a few tournaments there, with some good success.
Last night was to be the last tourney held there, Peggy's is shutting their doors next week.
This place was always filled with an amazing cross section of real characters.
Regulars including Jimmy B. who, to be honest, is a caracature of a man, kind of a cross between a troll (under the bridge type) and a Hell's Angel. His nearly continual laughter could not be avoided from any corner of the bar. He is very capable with a pool cue.
CJ, who is a corrections officer at one of our lovely prisons has obviously spent so much time with the inmates that he has taken on some of their 'interesting' personalities. Good guy, and very funny.
Heather, the hottie bartender, who when she plays keeps a cube of the purple master chalk she had me find for her, in her bra for easy access. Last night she wore the shortest, pink, ruffled, what looked to be a ballerina dress, and, of course, purple panties. All the guys scurried for the seats that offered the best views where Heather was playing - apparently dreaming of purple passion.
Ray, and his part-Cherokee indian wife, Lori, are loads of fun to be around. I believe Lori has screamed every conceivable swear word in the history of swear words, at uncooperative pool balls. :grin-square:
Joe and Kim are a wonderfully warm couple who have dedicated a lot of their time over the past few years running these tournaments. Kudos to them.
I can go on and on listing many more of the people who I will miss due to this closing.
I was fortunate to win last night's grand finale and they did a very nice gesture in taking down the brackets board from the wall and presenting it to me.
Heather went and got a black sharpie marker and placed the board on one of the pool tables, then she bent over and proceeded to make permanent for me, the last tourney board result from Peggy's.
I couldn't help but notice that even though the tourney was over, some guys were still vying for good seats.
Best,
Brian kc <----- who will miss this place, for sure.
