UPS Rant

You've already said that's EXACTLY what happened. Remember....when you first called, they said you'd get the package on 6/23.

After that rant, i would of lied to get rid of you too.
Next time you want something faster, PAY FOR IT. I
dont think it matters if that package was sitting next door
to you. Ups said 7-10 days and i would expect nothing less.

Okay...I'll try this yet one more time...

I called to find out if it was going to be delivered early, since it was already at the hub, or if it was going to sit for 4-5 days. Had they told me it was going to sit, that would have been the end of it, because there would have been nothing I could have done about it anyways.

My rant is about being lied to, repeatedly, across the board...save for the gal at Corporate, who could not figure out why it would be left to sit either, and genuinely seemed to at least care.

Listen, I have worked customer service jobs...and the worst thing you can do is to lie to a customer...that was a terminable offense. How difficult is it to just tell the customer the truth? But do not guarantee me something that is not going to happen, just because you do not feel like dealing with me or my question.....simple enough.

It's called RESPECT.

Lisa

They will say what you want to hear just to get you off the phone. The world is run by clerks.

I wanted an answer if it was going to sit...because between the hub floor and the trailer is a huge difference. Both UPS and FedEx Ground here have leaky leaky trailers...and I live where it rains like all the time. When I worked for FedEx, I had to do over 45 repacks in one shift due to every box being water damaged...and had to file damage reports for all 45. That's a LOT of repacks!

I also wanted to make sure I would be a t home...which if it was delivered early, I may not have been. I once had UPS deliver a Hot Plate...a piece of electronic equipment for the electric guitar, early, and not in a bag. They place it behind some bushes, so that the package was never even seen....several days later when they told me it had been delivered a day early (before the weekend), the box was actually falling apart because is was so utterly rain-soaked.

Also...I have a neighbor who has a HUGE Irish Wolfhound who just LOVES to snatch packages off my mud porch. So, I had my reasons for getting clarification.

Lisa <===== worked inside the 'system' for over 4 years, and has tons of horror stories.

Today was day 7. Do they not teach reading comprehension in schools anymore?!

I never demanded they deliver to me early...that is simply not the case at all. But do not tell me that it will 100% be delivered early. As a customer, I can only go on what I am told...nothing more, nothing less. We we are willing to accept subpar service, that is exactly what we will get.

Yep, that response sounds about right...they really just do not care. There really has to be a way to send a message to the corporate powers that be that this kind of behavior is not going to be tolerated or is acceptable. Unfortunately, most people simply do not wish to take the time to stand up for themselves or what is right....so the condition will likely continue, I'm afraid.

Lisa,

UPS does many types of scans. They do trailer scans, package scans, and totally imaginary scans. Another cute thing to know is that if you have signed for a package before the local driver can call up the electronic image of your signature and paste it into the current document, at least that was true a few years ago. I requested someone ship me a $3000+ order signature required because I didn't want it sitting out in the rain if it came when I wasn't home. My local driver being the helpful type dropped it on my doorstep and electronically signed for me! Their intention was good but I was sure annoyed to know that they could do that.

UPS treats packages rougher than any other shipping company I have used, they seem to delight in it. Another irritation is when they dump the wrong package at my place they want all of my personal information to come fetch it. I give them the address and tell them to come fetch it, if it is still here tomorrow evening I'm throwing it away!

They do intend sit on deliveries that reach your local depot early. I have had them sit on my packages for three business days. They will not deliver early anymore or at least that has been my experience. We used to almost always get the same deliver time for ground as second day when something was coming from several states away and a big hub. They realized they were losing money and cut that out!

I bought a very expensive custom target rifle from someone in California some years back when UPS tracking was much more detailed. It moved along nicely until it got to Salt Lake and disappeared for a week. I made all the calls you made and more and got the same BS and more. Finally I had a stroke of luck. A friend of mine handled several million dollars a year of UPS shipping for his company out of Salt Lake. I called him and by pure blind luck he was in the middle of negotiating the next year's rates with a UPS rep. Dave always made UPS wine and dine him for a week while negotiating and this happened to be that week. I asked Dave to intercede and suggest that negotiations might be enhanced if my rifle was found. Checking tracking a dozen times a day it never left Salt Lake but it showed up on my doorstep in south Louisiana while the tracking still showed it in Salt Lake! UPS was mum as to how this happened.

I do best with USPS and then FedEx. DHL has done fine a time or two too.

Thanks Hu....I appreciate the support, and understanding. I agree, UPS's tracking was much much better in the old days...much more detailed. And yes, in the past, they never used to let anything 'sit' at the hub...it came in, it went out...simple.

FedEx Ground also allows drivers to sign for the delivery and then leave the package. Has to be one of the worst policies they ever came up with! With FedEx Ground, the drivers are contractors, and not employees, like with UPS. When enough drivers started getting money taken out of their contractor checks for packages they signed for, but the customer never received, many drivers began to refuse using that option....as they were the one's who were having to assume all the liability.

I have gotten to either watch or participate in the 'sorts' for FedEx Ground, UPS, and DHL...and UPS's treatement of customers packages is even worse that that of baggage handlers at the airport. They think nothing of tossing packages across a terminal and letting them hit the floor. If you got caught throwing a box at FedEx Ground, you were fired. The local DHL facility has their contractors (drivers) off-loading the trailers and loading their own vans, so the packages generally stay in nice shape. I have yet to receive a box shipped via UPS that was not damaged in one way or another....usually with big gaping holes in the side or crushed.

Hey, I ship just about everything I can via USPS...items are almost always on time, and arrive in great condition. If there is an issue, you are not treated like the stuff you step in and need to wipe off your shoe. Like I said before, it is a matter of respect, and just telling the truth.

honestly speaking, when a customer complains its taken dead serious and the customer is always right, especially in these times when losing a customer to the competition means alot, the package industry is hurting just like all business's with the price of fuel and there's alot of half empty delivery trucks out there, where all fighting for the same customers so customer service is important. Sorry for your pain.

We use UPS both to send and to deliver. They are by far the best out of the rest. I have sent 100's maybe 1000's of packages with UPS and the only proble I've had was it was late because of storms, floods, and other things that weren't their fault. But your right...that is no way to talk to a customer. Johnnyt

I agree, UPS has given me less problems over the years than Fed Ex and especially USPS.

I have had them make one mistake out of about 200 packages and they corrected it immediately and refunded my costs. I have had horrific experiences with USPS and some pretty bad ones with Fed Ex.

Lisa's situation is not the norm by my experiences

Again, seeing as I cannot hear a thing, that would be a cheap shot!

Additionally, since the conversations with UPS are for Quality Assurance and Training purposes only, for them to be broadcast publicly is a violation of my right to privacy, and now we would have a serious lawsuit on our hands.

Lastly, since you do not have my real name, or the tracking info, how can you tell people that it is me on the phone? Can you say defamation of character?....I think you can. You know, my rant was against UPS, it had nothing to do with you personally, yet you chose to make it a personal attack on me...what with the neg rep points out the gate and all...yeah, you're a real asset the AZB.

It's just a funny prank call ride. It has nothing to do with you or your situation.
