Us 10 ball out of griffs ..nice reminder for the match room complainers

8-ball at the pro level is definitely a joke. BnR, BnR, BnR, oops dry break so the other guy ran out, BnR, BnR...

Once Shane fell behind Lee Vann 5-3 everyone knew it was over because the only way Shane could come back would be if Lee Vann made a mistake. But, everyone broke and ran on cue and the match ended as expected 8-6.

I don't know if winner break is the answer since then we'd have more 8-0 sets where someone never got to the table. But as played, it isn't fun. There's no drama or excitement. The rack is basically decided by the break.
I think if you're standing back far enough and don't care to look for a tree because the forest all generally looks the same then ya, I agree. However, there is an extreme art to how some of the 'same old, same old' racks are being ran out. The knowledge and ability these guys have make the game appearing boring, but it really isn't.

Roland Garcia, not Lee Vann.

Yes, lots of B&Rs in pro 8-Ball with these rules. Darren Appleton's series a few years ago addressed that pretty well. But, regardless, just sit back and admire the skill displayed in many of the runouts.

Alas, you are right. I've watched a lot of Shane's matches over the past few days and they've started to run together.

I absolutely love “Post Up” streaming this and doing commentary. It’s awesome.

Yah, Matchroom is more professional yada yada yada but Collins is awesome and his format is great with the chat and the guests that join him. And it’s FREE!
I appreciate what Collins is doing.
Having said that, I wish it was more about pool than it is.
Over half the "commentary" is BSing with the chat -which is annoying.
Between everyone wanting to be acknowledged in the chat, and having a camera only to stream himself sitting in the booth, it seems more Mickey Mouse Club than pool at times.
I still watch his streams when I can (often on mute), and give the thumbs-up because I want to encourage more to do the same.
He seems like a good guy and has clearly spent a boat-load on equipment to bring more pool to the masses, which is commendable.

I agree. I am impressed by the patterns they choose and their ability to then execute so precisely. In my 8-ball league a single BnR is notable, so I have a lot to learn and practice.

From a spectator enjoyment perspective though, there's admiring the technical skill, but there's also just the excitement of being a fan and watching a dramatic match that can go any which way. Pro 8-ball has the former, but in its current configuration it seriously lack the latter.

8 ball is mostly just played in bars because of the coin drop tables used.
so less pool players find it interesting to watch. especially from the pro side of it.

i know that art by now, even though i can't execute. this is like annual euro 8b championship, where the lag literally can determine the match outcome. either way, rooting for lee van. should have won the WPS 8B some 7 years ago but ruslan inte final was in dead stroke

Bold of you to think that pool is supposed to be the main focus of the Post-Up stream

There is a simple way to make 8-Ball more competitive and interesting at a high level. On the shot immediately following the break (when in a rotation game a roll out would be allowed) the player at the table elects to SHOOT or PASS

If he chooses SHOOT, opponent assigns suit
If he chooses PASS, he assigns suit to opponent.

thats good Mike.
could add spotting all balls made on the break.
and or allow pushout for either player or it could force the opponent into giving a ball in hand if breaker is snookered,

Just making sure I understand this, before I go on about why I like it. The shoot/pass option is just who will choose suit. The shooting player will still have their turn, even if they pass choice, to their opponent, correct?

it cant be any clearer than what he said

Other than the choice of the words “Pass” or “Shoot”. Which may imply that if you “Shoot” you do not “Pass” and if you “Pass” you do not “Shoot”.

Anyway, I think I like it a lot.

Can I ask a question regarding 8 ball? What exactly is the ultimate pool tour doing that makes uk/English 8 ball more compelling to watch than American 8 ball?

Everytime I see their streams, those guys are running out on almost the exact pace the players that play American 8 ball do. But there's something a hell of a lot more interesting and must watch for me vs the stuff they do on the big tables here.

What exactly is it?

Compelling idea. My concern would be added thinking time at the start. Already, players often spend multiple minutes evaluating a rack before first shooting (sans shot clock like in the current us open), and that's without such additional considerations. Played under the proposed rule, there might be a good 10 mins between the break and the first shot.

It's interesting enough I'll try it out the next casual game of 8 ball I play.

I may have this wrong but I believe the shot clock gets faster as the match goes on.
Less total match time in the finals?
They do something different

I don't mind it. I can understand how people don't care for it though. He says it's more like how a video game live stream is. Basically like hanging out with some friends and watching pool. Sometimes there is humor, shot descriptions, etc. It's not bad, just a different format than the traditional sports announcer type broadcast. I think both have their merits and if pool continues to grow we will probably see more diverse styles of streams.

"I hope this is the last we are seeing of this kind of pro tournament Because I for one never want to go back."

I remember when the Pro pool players where upset that Camel Cigarettes (their main sponsor) wasn't paying the players enough money. Camel said, Okay we just won't pay anything then. OOPS! If you can sell it fine, NFL NBA AMA WWE Then you have leverage. Pool is a very very hard sell.
Anyone who can make a good living at it should be glad to be working. Maybe someday that will be a better situation for pool players and maybe it won't. I recommend friendly suggestions always, But do not bite the hand that feeds you. If there is money to be earned / won then go do the work like the rest of do in our proffesions and deal with the imperfections of the job site like the rest of us do.
