Just wondering if anyone on AZ is going to play in the US Amateur Preliminaries at Mr cues II in Atlanta Sept. 22 ?

Wai Pang (ran the missippi run out 3 times in a row first time he saw it on a 9 ft Diamond tight pocket table)

Mike Sasser (beat Bruce Berrong 60% of the time when Bruce was 15) If anyone knows Bruce knows this was no small feat. Last time I played Bruce he gave me 6 out. He was 21 and I went broke
 
i have signed up. all set to play and win. practicing real hard.
 
There're two prelims near me... kind of thinking of playing just for kicks... a friend of mine won one of the prelims several years ago and I think he plays about my speed.

Which location are you going to go to? I am looking to split a hotel, and if it is over on SAT, then play some golf on Sun morning.
 
West Palm beach. I dont think I will stay overnight though. Its only about 1.5 hrs to get home and for that kinda drive I would rather wake up in my house.

Where are the prelim's at near you?
 
I live in Fort Worth.

There are prelims in Houston, TX and in Shreveport, LA if I remember correctly. Both are about 4 hours away. Shreveport, LA sounds more fun though and is probably easier to drive to (not to mention less smog).

Bill Shick's pool hall in Shreveport is worth seeing if you have never seen it.
Billy is a great cue maker, and nice guy too who will talk pool cues until you've had enough. I think he moved the shop out of the pool room but just heard that from someone else.

Is that where you're going to play your prelim Joey? I figure I can bring my SO to Shreveport, but Houston would be too boring for her (and did I mention smoggy?)! :p

Yeah, probably so. It is the closest prelim for me. Shreveport is....kind of country. Bill Shick's pool hall has a bar that is to be marveled at even if you don't drink alcohol. :-) The rest of the pool hall isn't too shabby either.

BTW, at Shreveport last year, there were more than a couple of people who qualified for the Finals Championship. I think five.....
