Hi,

Just realized that the price of cues are now higher than before but when I looked at the value of the US dollar compared to 2009, we actually loss about 30%. So if a cue like Southwest was priced at 2K USD before in 2009, it show now be priced at 2600.00 USD (2K x 1.3) if you wanted to break even on the cue.

Any thoughts on the prices of cues in US?

I recently sold my Richard Harris for a decent price but now I just realized that I actually lost money on the deal. 2 years ago, I could have sold the cue for $2500.00 USD...but in today value...it should have been 3250.00. This suck!!

Regards,
Duc.

It's swings and roundabouts. Currency fluctuations will even out over time, and besides there's no one 'true' exchange rate anyway. Everyone looks enviously at what they could have achieved when the value of their currency was at its strongest - nobody looks gratefully at what little they may have achieved when the currency was at its lowest.

Purchasing power decreases. Therefore your cue is worth less and people have less. So it's a lose lose, if you go to the uk and want to buy a cue you'll pay a lot more cause our currency is less. Then if they want to buy your cue they pay less. So in the US you get less. The UK buys it for less, and you pay more if you want to buy anything else outside of the country. One pro of this is that its a buyers market in the sense that they get things for less and everyone is looking to sell. Definitely not a sellers market thats for sure.

a cue is only worth, what someone is willing to pay for it.... so if you made a profit than you did good..if not you must have need the money..so you must weigh, whats more important the money for cue...

To answer what the original poster is saying yes the dollar is depreciating and at a rapid rate. I have a small portfolio and its mostly in the metals market, and keep up with current events on several websites daily. I have just read some excerpts from the billionaire in mexico hugo salinas's interview. He says that the US will be in the same position that mexico has been in for years if they don't stop implementing this infinite # of QE's they are going down the road after.

It has been stated that the US is just "kicking the can down the road" with the QE situation. I now hear they are going with a QE3 and hugo said in his interview "“Well I think the central bank (of Mexico) is watching what the Federal Reserve has been doing with utter amazement because we have been down that path before and it led to our ruin. So maybe they are saying, ‘We better have a little bit of gold because what is going on with quantitive easing is really hair-raising."

Now based on this what kind of financial shape will this country be in with doing what they continue to do? As far as cues are concerned they are an item that only the poeple that can afford them want and at this present time is very limited.

Thanks for all the comments. I definitely agree that it's a buyer market right now especially that fact that Canada and UK can now purchase cues for much less than they would have a few years ago from US.

However, just wanted to point out that just because currency is devalued, the price of cues like SW, Gus should be adjusted to reflect this devaluation since the cue value and demand of SW is consistent...their value should be adjusted accordingly like other products. Eg. Price of Milk.

So SW 2K are now at 2.6K which has been the trend that I've noticed. Unfortunately other less desirable cues are now worth much less.

This is the absolute truth. money supply, relative value of the USD to a basket global currencies or commodities, etc. do not determine prices of anything on their own - they are just factors that influence price directions of any good or service.

Observe, money supply is up:

Also, Observe that some things, like housing for instance, has experienced falling prices despite the increase in M1 and other factors:

In the end, ironworker78 called it right. Any good or service is worth only what someone is willing to pay for it, no more, no less. Cues are no different.

Devaluation of currency does not necessarily equal inflation. The US dollar has been becoming devalued for years now from what it used to be, however, domestic inflation has stayed relatively in check. If you're purchasing US goods with US dollars from inside the United States, a devalued currency doesn't, in itself, change the price of goods.
