US Open Tennis Format/Works, it's been proven, the entire planet thinks of two players going head to head in sets when they hear the term US Open. It's time to try this proven/tested and tiebreaker type of format with sets. Winner breaks a set, opponent racks a set and so forth, how difficult can that be????????????

Keep it Simple KISS....Took tennis took years to get it right. Why not ride on the coattails of a SUCCESSFUL business model that is NOT broken.

It's time to use it. Why NOT

Sets….best 3 out of 5….Race to 2/3/4 or whatever works....Double elimination.

Lag for who breaks first set....then alternate

Alternate breaker for each set
Alternate racker for each set
Lag when there is a tiebreaker
Do this till match ends

Use Magic Rack

24 second shot clock, one 24 second extension allowed per rack
Bathroom break, one per match, or what's best for the game.

What is also unique about Tennis is the way the players will warm up by courting each other with a series of shots and serves. THIS IS SO RESPECTFUL and forces opponents to RESPECT each other before each match begins.

Why not do the same in pro pool? We all play scotch - and players could court each other in the same way - running the balls, leaving simple-high level difficulty shots for each other until the TD calls time!

Each major USA event could carry a doubles tournament as well. Advantages:
1. More $ for the viewer - live or stream
2. More $ for the players who travel - especially from oversees
3. More commercial value
4. More Potential more $$$ added
5. USP for all events held in the USA - why be a followers when you can be a leader?

Yes, tennis is unique in the "courting one another" warm ups.
I don't think it has much to do with respect as much as it has to do with warming up one's own shots.
Just my opinion there.

Also my opinion is that this does NOT work for pool.
Pool is not like tennis where a player shoots a shot and the other player must respond;
unless you're talking defensive one-hole.
For the most part however, pool is a game where one has to warm up individually in order to get in stroke.
It's just the nature of the game.
I would NOT want to warm up with my opponent taking one shot at a time; just wouldn't get me ready for a match.
Now if I were playing scotch doubles then, yes, I
would want to warm up by alternating shots with my TEAMMATE with the goal of each of
us leaving different levels of difficulty (position) so as to provide a way for good warm up.

I agree, the "courting the other player" is unique to tennis—let's leave it on the tennis court and away from the pool table. :smile:

Go old school and combine them, a lot of the 1P players will stay away from 9B. Probably some 8B and 9B overlap.
Adding scotch will make the tournament run long as it does in other sports, but make them play late.

Can't do it I guess until he sells the rights to this event.
